P.S. The performance improvement is amazing - anywhere from 2X to 12X
depending on what metrics you are looking at. It isn't an apples to
apples comparison since we upgraded the servers as well but the "old"
servers are pretty powerful beasts.

Problem Mapping directories in Win95/98
Hi,
I've just installed samba and got it to work for me, but I have a problem
mapping directories in Windows 95/98. I can map the Actual drive with:
net use f: \\server\f
But if I do:
net use x: \\server\f\public /* We are migrating from a novell 3.12 sever */
I get an error 50.
If I use the explorer shell to map the drives, it maps X:\ to the root
directory (\\server\f).
If I use

Naturally my management would prefer that the original configuration
works the same so that things are transparent. Personally, the second
configuration feels better to me especially on a going forward basis.
Thanks in advance for any answers or hints.

altering the "create mode" for samba shares
Hi, I'm Samba is a new thing for me and I hope my question will make
some sense!
I have created several samba shares listed in my smb.conf file and have
the option "create mode = 0660" set.
This is fine most of the time, however sometimes certain users create
files (for web pages) that they want to be
world-readable. How can I keep my default setting at 660, but have some

subnet browsing crappy solution!
Trying all the stupid methods to solve the issue of Win2k hosts from
different subnets that can't be seen in the NetworkNeighbourhood when server
is Samba on Linux (including reading the F***ing manuals and not finding
anything useful or browsing through the source of samba until my eyes fall
in my mouth) I have decided that they were, well... ,stupid and chose to try
crappy solutions! One of

attr_accessor vs attr_accessible
Please guide me how to use those two methods. I can''t differentiate
them. I was doing something on my model and I have put one field in the
attr_accessible method. After that when I try to run the app the app
always says my other fields are blank, but they''re all filled up.
What''s wrong with it?
Thanks

Hi,
I am new to dovecot and I am a bit confused with how namespaces/prefixes/separators are handled by the clients and dovecot...
I tried to understand the desciption from the conf file but without success.
With each conf I create the following path /f1/f2 on the client (thunderbird) and get the following on the dovecot server:
PREFIX= and separator=/ => .INBOX.f1.f2 + .INBOXTrash

Mongrel Web Server 0.3.11 -- Edge Rails and Win32Compliant
I don''t think there''s a way to do that other than using a proxy
(ISAPI_REWRITE) or just a server-side redirect. I''d love to be proven
wrong though.

I will pay you $10US (via Paypal) out of my own pocke t if you can solve this CUPS & Samba problem.
Nope, doesn't work, and I need the drivers to be available and read from the
linux server. The PPD files do contain one which is specific to my printer
and has worked on another machine.

Rubuntu Live CD for Rails
Friends-
I am almost finished with a custom live cd called Rubuntu ;-) This
is an ubuntu live cd variant that comes preloaded with ruby and rails
developers in mind. I already have it working with all the basics but
I was wondering what extras people would like to see on this distro.
What editors with what configurations?
What other tools do people really like for rails development on a

Loosing Samba Shares Across Segments
I have two Samba servers configure similarly. One shares fine across our
entire network and the other only works within its own segment. I have
poured over the smb.conf files and cannot see what it preventing the one
from crossing segments. These both are Debian 2.2 boxes and I am just
modifying the default smb.conf files. I am hoping a fresh pair of eyes will
