Printers don't stick
Hi,
Having a weird problem here.
We've got Sambe 3.0.14a and cups 1.1.23 on a Debian system. I've run:
cupsaddsmb -U RALPH\\jgoerzen -a -v
Where RALPH is our PDC (and it also the machine I'm running this command
on). The entire command *appears* to work, but:
* None of the tdb files in /var/lib/samba, including ntforms.tdb,
ntprinters.tdb, etc. have their date stamp updated. (They all still
show last month, which...

Safely editing voicemail.conf
We have a problem with Asterisk not locking voicemail.conf for update.
It appears to not protect the file even against itself. It certainly
doesn't use flock() to protect it against others.
This is a problem for several reasons. First, of course, people can be
hand-editing the file to add or remove users. Secondly, automated
programs may be appending data to it for the same purpose.

Fwd: Samba AD DC not working properly within Docker [NT_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR]
...es with
smbclient I am getting an error. This even applies inside the Docker
container for the AD DC, so the issue is not related to a wrong
networking configuration or port mapping (which does not apply to
macvlan anyway).
This is how this can be reproduced within a docker container:
docker pull jgoerzen/debian-base-security
docker run -d --privileged --name samba-ad-dc-test --hostname
sambatest --network vlan_server jgoerzen/debian-base-security
docker exec -i -t samba-ad-dc-test /bin/bash
// Note: The issue is not related to "macvlan". It also happens with
Docker's default "br...

Print driver installation problem
Hi,
I am trying to set up a Win98 PC to print to a server running Samba
2.2.3a. The server has print drivers installed via cupsaddsmb, which
is just a wrapper around the rpcclient addprinter/adddriver/setdriver
functions. Calls to rpcclient's geprinter and getdriver functions
return valid data.
When I go to install the printer on the Windows 98 client, however,
things start out OK but soon

Bug#372524: Lots of inaccurate information in /usr/share/doc/xen-utils-3.0/README.Debian.gz
Package: xen-utils-3.0
Version: 3.0.2+hg9681-1
Severity: normal
In the tls section: it fails to mention the better solution (apt-get
install libc6-xen)
In the kernel section: where it says "for now we cannot provide
precompiled Linux kernels with the xen patch applied", that's not true
either. apt-get install linux-image-2.6-xen-k7 or some such.

Vulnerability in Elm-ME+
Hello,
I have confirmed that the recently-reported vulnerability in Elm is also
present in Elm-ME+ and thus also in Debian GNU/Linux version 1.2, prerelease
version 1.3, and development tree "unstable".
Below is a short diff to correct the problem.
Debian GNU/Linux 1.2.x uses stock Elm 2.4pl25. Users of that version of Elm
should upgrade to Elm-ME+ as detailed below.

VoipJet Terms of Service
I've heard good things about VoipJet here, so I was going to set up an
account. Then I noticed their Terms of Service here:
https://www.voipjet.com/tos.php
Several things there are very concerning to me, and I'm interested in
what other people here think of them.

Lots of trouble hanging when rm files with many extents
Hello folks,
I reported a bug here:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63071
but I am not sure if that was the right thing to do. This is producing OOM
issues and leading to system crashes (including eventual panics) with such
alarming frequency that I wonder if perhaps there is something different
about my setup than others.
In a nutshell, I originally made the mistake of storing a

Commercial Asterisk Support? (Digium, etc.)
Hello,
I know of someone that is thinking of spending $20,000 on a new
voicemail system because their vendor is end-of-lifing the system they
have now. I mentioned that maybe Asterisk could do what they need, at a
much lower cost. Reliability is, of course, critical -- which brings up
the topic of paid 24/7 support. If something goes wrong, they need
somebody that can make it work -- anytime,

SIP <-> PSTN DTMF
Hi,
I have a SIP phone connecting to my asterisk server, using
dtmfmode=rfc2833. When calling from the SIP phone to internal asterisk
services, such as voicemail, it works fine.
But when I call out to the PSTN, from the SIP phone, via my X100P, the
call will be connected fine. After that, though, any numbers I dial on
the SIP phone are lost. I hear them on the phone, but I don't hear them

SPA-3000 disconnect tone
Hi,
I have a SPA-3000. My telco sends no disconnect indication
whatsoever, so I am having trouble making the PSTN line detect
disconnect.
What I want it to do is detect the very loud off-hook tone that is
generated about 20 seconds after disconnect. It's not perfect, but
it's a lot better than silence detection. I noticed that the zaptel
drivers can detect this with busydetect, but

Client hang w/Samba
Hi,
We are trying to move from a Novell to a Samba server here, but are
encountering a strange problem.
We are storing several applications on a Samba share and running them
from there. Most are working OK. For one particular application
(which requires read/write permissions on the server since it stores
data there), the first user to enter the application has no problems.
It is lightning
