Newbie Question
Installed the current Wine release under Ubuntu 7.10 32 Bit. I cannot see how to actually install a Windows application correctly. Sorry, I just can't find out how to do it - I want to run the .exe installation file for a program called ConvertXtoDVD.
I also (through mucking about and not asking first) totally messed up the Wine application, removed it 'completely' via the Package

Strange channel 0 error
hello,
i'm getting a very strange error in my system logs. maybe someone can
help out. the server is an hp-ux 11.00 box, running openssh 2.3.0p1, and
the client is a redhat 6.2 box running the same version. running 'ssh -l

I'm building a website that has a common header across lots of pages and I

Apache handler?
Has anyone considered using Markdown.pl or PHPME as an Apache
handler for Markdown files? It would be very slick to post straight
.text files and have them rendered behind the scenes, although for
high traffic sites pre-rendering would obviously be much more
efficient.
I suppose I'd also want an escape hatch like
daringfireball.net's, perhaps disabling rendering if the URL includes

Is this just anti-Ogg FUD?
I was recently talking to a friend of mine who produces what's widely
referred to as "techno", music that's heavy on electronically generated
loops and effects, samples, and has plenty of bass.
He doesn't like ogg for a few reasons - he sent me a rather long email, and
I've stripped out the nonsense from it (he has some technically irrelevant
reasons for not liking

Mac markdown editor that saves as .txt
Hi all,
I'm a newer user of markdown & MultiMarkdown, and I'm looking for the
perfect setup of software for my Mac and my Android phone. I'd like to
have my drafts editable from both.
What I want is an attractive Mac app for writing (primarily blog posts and
emails) that saves its files as .txt . Most of them save as .md or
.markdown instead, and since there doesn't seem to

File Extension Consensus
I see in the archives that using a common extension for markdown has been discussed. Has an official consensus ever been reached?

Markdown use by newspapers?
Does anyone know of any larger newspapers or publishing companies
that use Markdown? Several times I've noticed glitches in web page
articles, posted at larger newspapers, where emphasis has been
indicated by underlines and have wondered.

Horses for courses perhaps. But I get way too much email, and personally find book marking a current web conversation much easier.
Moreover, I don?t want my email address shared with a massive (presumably) list, so I have to use a ?throw away? address, which is added hassle. Especially when said

OpenSSH_3.5p1 server, PC clients cannot connect
I have setup an OpenSSH_3.5p1 ssh/sftp server on my
SunOS 4.1.4 box. I can ssh to it just fine. The problem
is SFTP from certain clients.
I can SFTP to it using my OpenSSH_3.5p1 sftp client. I
can SFTP to it from MacSFTP from MacSSH.org, version 1.0.5.
However, I have several clients that cannot connect. I have
had them try CuteFTP Pro v2, v3, WS_FTP Pro v7.62, PuTTy
pSFTP. None are able to
