(/usr/lib64/cups/backend/smb) stopped with status 1
Hello,
There is a printer at work (a Xerox WorkCentre 5325).
I am able to print using the following command: smbclient //MyHiddenPC/MyHiddenShare -WMyHiddenDomain -c 'print my-hidden-file.pdf'.
However, it does not work when I try to print through CUPS using the following command: lp my-hidden-file.pdf.
In the CUPS error_log file, the only error I can read is: [Job 5] PID 27883

OT - Intel IPP 5.3
Hello,
For education purpose, I would like to add G729 support to an Asterisk
1.4.19.1 system.
I've read this :
http://www.readytechnology.co.uk/open/ipp-codecs-g729-g723.1/
but when downloading Intel IPP software, it appears that latest IPP version
is 5.3.
As installation instructions here (
http://www.readytechnology.co.uk/open/ipp-codecs-g729-g723.1/doc-svn8.txt)
relates to Intel IPP 4.2, I thought I should try something else.
I bumped into thi...

Samba vs IPP printing
Not including cases of unsupported clients for IPP printing (such as
Windows NT) are there any reasons/caveats for installations running CUPS
to not move over to IPP printing?
Are there any features or benefits to Windows/Samba printing for Windows
clients that make it superior compared to IPP?

(/usr/lib64/cups/backend/smb) stopped with status 1
..., the smbspool program is never closed!
I tried again to print through CUPS using the following command: lp my-hidden-file.pdf.
This time, in the CUPS error_log file, I do not see that CUPS is trying to use /usr/lib64/cups/backend/smb as backend to print.
That's weird.
It seems to be using the IPP protocol instead of SMB.
Indeed, I can find these lines in the error_log file:

How to prevent logging of some entries in CDR
Hi
In order to add several phones to a single extension number, I have
replaced entries like:
exten => 100,1,Dial(SIP/sipphone100,20,Tr)
into:
exten => 100,1,Dial(Local/100 at phones,20,Tr)
[phones]
exten => XXX,1,Dial(SIP.sipphone${EXTEN})
etc
This works great. However in the CDR, than seeing one entry for each
call, I see several entries in the CDR
Worse, if I do something like:
Dial(Local/100 at phones&...

I admire your persistence in trying to find and write documentation on the Windows port, but there's only so much documentation that can cover all the workarounds. At some point, you need a Windows

HELP: Dose G.729 with IPP only worked on IntelCPU?
>My CPU is Centaur VIA Nehemiah with 998.715 MHz processor not INTEL

Common Sense dude - The Intel IPPs work only for Intel CPUs.
Remove the codec_g729.so file from /usr/lib/asterisk/modules folder and
restart asterisk
Check if it is working by starting as under:
UnixPrompt# asterisk -cvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvf
Once this loads correctly use 'Stop now' and restart with command

server smbd[23036]: Unable to get jobs for ipp://localhost/printers/[printer-n
...his two times - I forgot the subject!!
I am running samba 3.01012 on a fc2 server. I have problems with samba/ cups
for some of my printers, and samba is filling up /var/log/messages with the
following lines:
-printing/print_cups.c:cups_queue_get(900)
-server smbd[23036]: Unable to get jobs for
ipp://localhost/printers/[printer-name] - client-error-not-found
The printers work, however, but printing is rather slow.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem. I have been googling around
and found that the problem is well known, but I have not found any
solutions.
Thanks!

How to setup the NUT client on Windows?
...l port includes, but remember that I'm
not looking for an advance usage of NUT, mastering the server side for
example, I'm only looking for the client part to allow a Windows PC
wait for messages coming from the NUT server on the NAS and taking
actions to safely shutdown the computer.

Print Server in AD
I would skip all the Windows garbage if you can. Specifically don't have
Windows load printer drivers from shares.
If it's a single office where everyone has the same printer (or the same
multiple printers), the basic process is:
Preload the drivers into the driver store
Add an IPP printer connection to CUPS which doesn't rely on the filesharing
/ print driver hacks that were added because things are so insecure as an
admin to make sure everything is loaded properly
Add the printer to the user session when they sign in.
To accomplish this:
* Set up CUPS on your Samba ser...

Re:RE:Cupsprinter over samba won't work from w2k clients
...installed ppd for cups and the windows driver I use to
install on the clients. What's used finally to send the job to the printer?
I install the windows driver on samba, then on the client but depending on
the URI for the ppd-printer under cups the jobs can or not be printed. ???
Could it be a ipp problem?
the printer understands 4 URIs
http://ip.ad.re.ss/ipp
http://ip.ad.re.ss:631/ipp
http://ip.ad.re.ss/ipp/lp
http://ip.ad.re.ss:631/ipp/lp
I use http://ip.ad.re.ss:631/ipp
With other Uris the jobs don't reach the printer...
Thanks i.a. again...

Truncated print jobs - MS-DOS clients
...:
http://samba-technical.samba.narkive.com/g3YL4vmY/dos-clients-slow-on-samba-4-1-7-bug-10422
(works perfect, thanks!)
- Several Win10, Win7, WinXP and a few MS-DOS 6.22 clients;
- All shares are xfs filesystems (ext4 avoided, as MS-DOS clients
suffer from infinite repeated dir filename)
- With 1 ipp raw queue printer shared by Samba as "\\newserver\laser"
Scenario: sending plain text file to captured printer port:
copy xpto.txt lpt1
- XP, Win7 clients: Works perfect, instant and correct printing.
- MS-DOS Clients: machine stays "locked" for exactly 45 seconds, then

remote port forwarding unstable
Hi,
I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, maybe someone noticed it also...
I always do a remote port forwarding with openssh on 1026 port let's
say ( ssh -R 1026:localhost:55555 ). Most times the port is opened on
remote machine. But sometimes i notice that ssh can't do remote port
forwarding to that port 1026. I looked on the remote machine (netstat
-an) and no one is using that

Printer in wine on OS X?
I have installed Wine via macports on my Leopard machine. I have a printer installed on the MAC but apparently this is not using CUPS?
Can someone help me install a printer via cups on the mac and also, how do I get a start menu or somewhere to run my applications without having to run them from a command line?
If this works, I will not be able to have my teachers run apps from a cli. There

Samba & CUPS: only banner-page gets printed
In my setup I'm running Samba 3.0.23d-19.2 and CUPS 1.2.7-12.1.
Printing from a windows-client works fine, until I instruct CUPS to add
a banner-page. The banner-page then is the only thing that gets printed.
Doing the same from Linux everything works fine. I get my job including
a banner-page.
The Windows-printjob is passed raw from Samba to CUPS...
Anyone has an idea?
