Just as an update .. I moved from Vista to Ubuntu and stuck with
IntelliJ + Ruby plugin until I hit a showstopper bug..
http://www.intellij.net/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=277084&tstart=0
So I was forced to move quickly back to either NetBeans or Eclipse ...
and since NetBeans required less setup than Eclipse I''ve run with that.
I''ve been happy wit...

Centos 7 | Rebind ctrl + alt + f# keystroke to application
Hello,
I am new to Centos and this mailing list.
I have an application (IntelliJ IDEA) which uses the ctrl+alt+f# key
combinations to provide shortcuts. The keystrokes are bind to the ttys
virtual consoles. Is there anyway to rebind the keystrokes to the
application?
I tried the following solution (xorg.conf edit) but my PC freezes during
boot process. I had to rollback the xo...

[ADV] James Edward Gray's TEXTMATE book now in beta
Folks:
Sorry for the commercial, but I''m excited about this one. I''ve been
using TextMate for most of my work for a year now---if you''re on a
Mac, it really is the best tool for writing Rails code. So when James
Edward Gray II offered to write a book on TextMate, I jumped at it.
James helps maintain the Ruby support in TextMate, and this knowledge

RSpec on Google Summer of Code
...Summer of Code (GSoC) is starting soon, and there are two
suggestions for RSpec-related projects:
http://www.rubycentral.org/projects/soc2007/ideas
Although not on this list (yet) I''d love to see someone taking the
challenge to implement RSpec support in RDT/RadRails/Eclipse, NetBeans
or IntelliJ IDEA (or all of them!).
Other RSpec related projects are of course welcome too.
Applications are due March 26th (http://code.google.com/soc), so if
you want to be part of it you better get ready!

RoRED a free Ruby on Rails editor for Windows
Hi.
On http://www.plasmacode.com you can download RoRED, a free IDE for Ruby
on Rails apps, only for Windows.
It has some interesting features like tab-grouping of related MVC files,
code navigation into methods (ctrl+click), and more.
Best regards,
Marcus.

testing behaviour or testing code?
hypothetical question for all you BDD experts:
I want to make sure that a :list action always returns widgets in
alphabetical order. There''s at least 2 ways of doing this:
it "should fetch items in alphabetical order" do
Widget.should_receive(:find).with(:order => "name ASC")
get :list
end

UK Rates for RoR Contract work?
Hi all,
I''ve been offered a short-term contract here in the North of England -
around 3 months work, but with RoR I think it will take considerably
less time - and am just curious what market rates were right now.
I''ve been offered a little under ?1k/week which seems ''right'' for a PHP
coder doing this kind of work, but should I be hitting for more, or is

PEG Markdown Highlight
Dear fellow Markdown enthusiasts,
As you all might know, Markdown is a highly context sensitive language that the (often regex-based) syntax highlighting mechanisms in existing editors struggle to keep up with.
I have taken John MacFarlane's excellent peg-markdown compiler and modified its parser to function as an interpreter for syntax highlighting purposes. The end result is a

At the end of this month we will release v 0.6 which has

foo_spec.rb -> foo.rspec (proposed RSpec file name convention)
Is it too late to suggest some filename conventions for example rspec
files--especially when bundling with gems?
I see spec_foo.rb and foo_spec.rb around. Also found some foo_ex.rb
around. Would having a foo.rspec be worth talking about? Or is the
convention more or less to have ''spec'' in the file name?
I have to confess the only real motivation I have at the moment is

Struggling with Jruby Rails + jdbc driver
hi all,
I am having a hard time trying to find out what''s wrong with my setup. It
used to work smoothly until I decided out of the blue to do a selfupdate
and upgrade outdated on MacPort, then things started going south very
quickily.
Since MacPort kinda broke, I pull it all out and re-install the ports I
have before, which went pretty smoothly. Then to my surprise any command I
