Yum package/instlal/update problem
Hi gang! I'm trying to update my videolan client (0.8.4a-4.el4.rf) to the latest 0.8.6 version. I see that Dag has a 0.8.6 for EL4 (I'm running Centos 4.4) but when I do "yum update videolan-client" it says there's nothing to update. When I remove the videolan client than do "yum install videolan-client" it insists on trying to install the 0.8.4 version:

Cups and Samba Access Denied
...onnect to this printer by adding a local printer in XP and choosing the create port option. But if I choose network option it asks me for a user name and password and I get access denied. I have raw printing running and when I create the port it seems to be working fine but for some reason I cannot instlal it like a network printer on a NT box. Here the parts of my smb.conf file: ### 1.4 - Printing ### printing = cups printcap name = cups load printers = yes # If you want to automatically load your printer list rather # than setting them up individually then you'll need this. s...

Puppet code review - suggestions and options
...defined, a system can be designed around it. The go to git code review seems to be gerrit. I would love to hear experiences from others that are specifically using gerrit with puppet for reviewing puppet code. I''d really like to hear your workflow and how gerrit fits into it. After instlaling a test environment, some of the questions arise: Are you using gerrit''s jgit as your puppetmaster git repo on the puppetmaster? If not, how are you transferring the git repo from gerrit to the puppetmaster? Are you using jenkins with gerrit? If so, what jobs do you have jenkin...

CentOS 4 and CentOS 5 DomU on CentOS 5 Dom0: problems with hand-built OS and LVM
...the jailtime images and their like have *no* grub or bootloader on DomU, boot straight from the installed kernel on DomU and Dom0 for para-virtualization with the arguments in "root =" above. By the way: the differences betweent he jailtime setups, which I really like, and the virt-instlal and virt-manager built systems are legion and favor the stripped down jailtime setups. The virt-install systens use the Dom0 partitions as disk drives, *ALWAYS* called /dev/xvda and the like. This means that extracting the data from a paused or shutdown domain for backup purposes requires me lo...

Getting hibernate to work on a new CentOS 7.2.1115 install
...rrently a problem on Fedora. So you might need to add this to the grub.cfg on the kernel command line, something like resume=/dev/VG/swap or wherever it is. If it's a /dev/sdXY, i.e. on a regular partition, then use UUID. I know how to get it working on Fedora (modify /etc/default/grub and grub-instlall) or so I believe. Should I have to do the same thing on CentOS? Thanks again! -

how to package hypervisor-pae?
...een both versions. 2) we do it with hooks in debian/rules and install the pae enabled version not in debian/install for packaging, but in debian/install-pae or something like this. by doing this, we could add a second dh_install call just for the pae-hypervisor (which gets installed from debian/instlall-pae then). the advantage would be, that no patching of upstream is required, but then we still need the conflict in debian/control, because both hypervisor would consist files with exactly the same name. I would think posiblity no. 1 is the better way to go... If the list agrees, I will try t...

compile samba 4.10.2 centos 7.6
...odules. You simply do not know which version of a module, or which version of a module dependency, you will wind up with depending on what has updated on pypi.org and what you already have installed. It is an unpredictable crapshoot. I just ran into this in force when someone casually ran "pip instlal awscli", which was already present, and the umask was set to 077 and broke other new dependencies for non-root users. pip, like CPAN, ant, maven, gradle, and rubygems, is prone to bringing in new and incompatible components at unpredictable times. It shouldn't be used for production setup...

Running a 32-bit application on CentOS3-x64
Hi, I'm trying to run Norman anti-virus on a CentOS 3 box, x64. Is it possible? Running the binary gives me this error: [root at server bin]# ./nvcc -bash: ./nvcc: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory I guess I would have to install i386 libraries that it requires, as well. It it possible? Regards, Ugo

Incomplete host name resolution
Hello I happen to have two network interfaces on my new, up-to-date, CentOS 6.2, named eth0 and virbr0 (3 of them if I include the lo interface). However the system APIs like getaddrinfo() only return the address for the virbr0 interface (which was created by the CentOS installation), when I would like to have them both. Even if I give the configured eth0 address explicitly to getnameinfo(),

CentOS and Wordpress
Hi All, I am currently am responsible for maintaining a website built on Apache 2, running on some CentOS 4 (64 bit version) boxes. Thus far, the website has comprised a few HTML pages, and some dynamic pages generated by perl scripts. The CentOS install is pretty vanilla -- the only departure I've made from the default server install is to install awstats from the rpmforge repositories.
