Moving from Splus to R - advice/opinions request from a management perspective
...pany.
- I really don't know why Splus was chosen as the analysis engine for this app - that choice was made long before I inherited the project.
- The developer currently in charge of the Splus code is not a stats guy either, but he is a very talented programmer that has been to one Insightful course and taught himself enough to maintain the existing code (the original authors are long gone).
- While there is quite a large quantity of existing code that is used by our application, I don't believe that it is terribly complex, from an applied statistics point of view. Using...

Confused about approach
Greetings all,
I''m a bit of a linux rookie, but a friend and I have built a
firewall running Shorewall 1.4.6c over a minimal install of Redhat 9.
Out network setup looks something like this:
Cable Modem : eth0 :12.xxx.xxx.3 (Zone is named INSIGHT)
Campus Lan : eth1 : 10.176.9.21 (Zone is named MULAN)
DMZ : eth2 : 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 (Zone is named DMZ)
Currently, I have masqueraded eth2 through eth0 (DMZ hosts use the cable
connection to go out). What we ideally want is all http (port 80)
traffic to go over the campus lan conne...

Can someone provide some insight on WebRTC vs a generic SIP library in a browser?
I work on the Asterisk side of things and admit to not knowing about browser development.
A co-worker asked me today why they should develop a web based agent software using WebRTC? They prefer to develop using a SIP based javascript library they found.
Can anyone offer some insight on why to choose either WebRTC or a SIP library for a web based agent software connecting up to an asterisk system?

But I believe neither Insightful nor R-core would want to see each other as
competitor. (Reality might be quite different.) It would not be in the
best interest of either party.
(Apologies for putting words in R-Core's mouth. As for Insightful, at least
that's David Smith's word when he talked about `Future of S...

Stratified bootstrap question
Dear experts,
I am asking for help with a question regarding to stratified bootstrap.
My dataset is a longitudinal dataset (3 measurements per person at year
1, 4 and 7) composed of multiple clinic centers and multiple participants
within each clinic. It has missing values.
I want to do a bootstrap to find the standard errors and confidence
intervals for my variance components. My model is a

R does in memory analysis only?
I wonder if someone would confirm something I'm 99% sure of from the
docs and discussion on the list, but can't find stated explicitly:
R works only on problems that fit into (real or virtual) memory.
Thus, even if you have a problem (e.g., simple regression) that could be
solved by doing some operation on each row of a dataset at a time, you
can't solve it unless the entire dataset
