Cheap PoE switches/injectors?
I'm trying to spec out hardware for a new office, and I'd like to include power over Ethernet as an option. I've seen a handful of PoE injectors around $1000 for 24 ports and a couple switches up around $2500 for 24 ports. Are there any cheaper options, short of buying a boatload of 1-port injectors off of ebay? I don't really need more then 24 ports of PoE out of 48 total ports, so one of CIsco's big PoE switches is complete...

Cisco power injector with GXP2000 phones
I've tried to use a Cisco power injector to supply power over Ethernet to a GXP2000 phone without success. Although when I plugged these phone to a PoE capable Cisco Switch it worked without a problem! Knowing that all these three equipments implement IEEE 802.3af protocol, why doesn't it work with the Cisco power injector? Anyone al...

Polycom 501 power over ethernet
...02.3af) because they were "powered over ethernet." Silly me. Polycom must have some odd voltage or funny way of injecting the power, because the POE switch I bought for them (Netgear F@510P) won't power them, though if I use the Polycom-supplied AC adapter and ethernet power injector cable, they work with the switch in either its powered or unpowered ports. Anyhow, I hadn't seen any mention of how people power these phones, as I had planned on centralizing phone power on a UPS to supply my Asterisk server and POE switch. Now the question is: Can the Polycom AC-powe...

Polycom Power
I have a 501 with traditional power and a 301 with PoE. I rightfully assumed that the traditional power from the 501 would work on the 301. How do I get the PoE to work? Do I use the Polycom PoE cable in addition to whatever PoE injection method I use? I have a Cisco PoE injector that works on my Cisco AP350 and my 7960. No combination of this injector, the Polycom cable, and the phone result in success. I have 18v PoE injectors that I use for other things, but I hear that 802.3af is 48v, therefore probably wouldn't work. How do I use Polycom PoE? ----------...

3com Ethernet Power Supply
Hello, I am trying to set up some Cisco 7940G phones with the 3com POE injectors. I have the 3CNJPSE24 power injector, this is the rackmountable 24 port injector. My question is does anyone know how to serial console into these things? I have tried just about every cable setup I can think of and baud rates but I can't seem to get anything out of it. I want to check to s...

Cisco 7940G licensing with asterisk
.../products/hw/phones/ps379/products_data_sheet09186a008008884a.html It says that regardless of the technology used you have to buy a licencse. Does the license apply to use the phone with asterisk, or, can i just buy the phone? Also, the phone does not requiere to use an AC adapter if used with PoE injectors/switches. Can non-Cisco PoE injectors/switches be used with this phone? Thanks, -- ------------------------------------------------------------ Erick Perez ------------------------------------------------------------

cisco poe
...o 7940's all running using cisco power cubes. However, my boss wants me to switch just a few over to poe, but doesn't want to fork out the dough for a nice cisco poe switch, or anybody else's poe switch for that matter. So my question is, what is the '99.999% sure/safe' poe injector solution that most people are using for the cisco phones? Right now I'm looking at buying the 3-Com 3CNJPSE (qty 2-3) to power the few specific locations where a power cube just wouldn't look right, like a conference room table for example. :) I know this solution, thanks to the fact...

[LLVMdev] Fault-injector for LLVM
Hi, I'm a PhD student at UIUC and I am using LLVM to add fault-tolerance capabilities to applications. I would like to evaluate my framework by performing fault-injections (fault-insertions) in the application. Essentially, I want to corrupt an LLVM value at the time of its definition and study the behavior of the program under this condition. I would like to be able to do this in a generic

How to make/recieve call using asterisk when thereis a power failure?
Sorry I dont have any answers, however I do have a question. I was told that ISDN-30 lines do not work during power failure. Can anyone with some better knowledge confirm or deny this? Is this because the ISDN-30 box on the wall requires power (and Telco providers just dont hook them into UPS as standard)? Or do they mean if your local circuit has lost power so will the local digital exchange

I have a PoE injector to insert between the patch panel and HP 2626 switch. I plan to plug the users pc into the phone and the phone into the wall. I would like the phones to have a seperate subnet from the phones for performance reasons. May be a silly question, but with the pc and phone sharing the same switch por...

Which phones are good, or at least acceptable, for home and office
...y of these choices known to be bad performers, hard to configure with Asterisk, etc. I have read that it is difficult or not possible to get the message waiting indicator to show for the BT-102. Is this a problem with the GXP-2000 or Polycom phones ? Also is it possible to use the Linksys POE injector/splitter to power a BT-102 ? Or are there other solutions for POE? Some Web references follow for the keen. Thanks for any thoughts or input on this. POE Splitters
...run from the feed area to the service area. I have three devices that I need to power at the service area. Is anyone aware of a device that will take the POE from the cable run and then allow me to split it to two or three devices at the service end? When I search for splitter all I get are the injectors, but I figure someone has to make something.... I realize I'll need a power adapter with enough amps to power the full load at the end. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch recommendations
Hi listers, I am looking for people who have used Power over Ethernet switches, primarily in conjunction with Polycom IP 501's. I've been looking at the Linksys SRW224P, since I've had good luck with the SRW224 in our office. However, Nortel, Cisco, Adtran, etc. all have an offering, all of which vary in price. I would appreciate any input people have to offer. Thanks, James

Questions about builds
...e something non-kh, is it older by definition? 2) Other than possibly age, what is the conceptual different (if any) between kh and non-kh builds? What do kh builds hope to accomplish that old Icecast never did? 3) There was a kh-ads build at some point. Did that later become the Ando Targeted Ad Injector? Did the ads build continue to be developed? Thanks for humoring my many questions. :) Wes Keene

benchmark adn threshold
Hi all, i'd like to know if there is a tool like an injector that permits to increase progressively the load onto a Samba server. My aim is to define a threshold as the number of concurrent users connected and accessing shares simultanously on a samba3 PDC. I don't care about network transfer rate. thanks for your answer

Systems Admin; Telecom Newbie - What do I ne ed?
...products/en_US/detail.jsp?tab=features&pathtype=purchase &sku=3CNJ90 It's basically a 4 port switch that you replace your wall jack with. I used the NJ200, it allows you to set priority per port, although I think they are discontinued now. In combination with a 3Com power over Ethernet injector, I was able to expand a 24 port LAN to a 96 port LAN with a per-port cost of $62 Cdn. And, 24 ports of those 96 are PoE, so I can plug my phones right in to port 1 and they power up, no external power supply needed. hth
