[ADV] "Mongrel: Serving, Deploying, and Extending Your Ruby Applications" BOOK
Time for some all time pimpage folks.
Me and Matt Pelletier wrote a small PDF book on Mongrel entitled: "Mongrel: Serving, Deploying, and Extending Your Ruby Applications" since we really wanted you to know what it was about. It''s published by Addison Wesley Professional, has just over 100 pages of goodness, and is available for $14.99 at:

OSX requires sudo for using ports < 1024
...s/mongrel-0.3.14
/bin/mongrel_rails:235
from /usr/local/bin/mongrel_rails:18
Mongrel runs without sudo on all other ports > 1024 otherwise. Anyone have
the reason that these ports require sudo?

[LLVMdev] Porting LLVM backend is no fun yet
As we've already seen, David Chisnall prefers hacking LLVM over GCC (see
http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=1215438): "In contrast,
every time I look at the GCC code, it takes two people to
prevent me from clawing my eyeballs out."
I'm sorry to report that so-far I have had the opposite experience.
Some years ago, I ported binutils (via CGEN) and GCC to an em...

Palm Pilot Sync via USB
Anyone read http://www.informit.com/articles/article.asp?p=462523&rl=1 ?
It is recent and tells you to forget the pilot-link from your distro and
rebuild it with direct USB support:
/configure --enable-libusb
You are support to blacklist "visor" so pilot can control the usb device.
Also newer code.

User level vs. Share level
Hi,
I wonder if you could tell me or point me in the direction of a document that
would explain the differences between user level and share level security and
explain the advantages and disadvantages of each one. Especially reasons for
using user mode over share mode.
Thanks for your help,
Tim James.

Xen Development Environment
Hi all,
I wonder if there is a certain development environment that has been
commonly used to develop the Xen code. I am currently trying to play
around with the code and it take me a while to figure out the relations
between different variables and functions.
I am also wondering if there exist any specification of explanation for
the source architecture, like some published design document

Test new xen, centos-release-xen and kernel for auto grub update on kernel install

This is also where you can assign more or less memory to the dom0. etc.
This article has some other possible parameters for the xen.gz line:

BOOT_XEN_AS_DEFAULT="yes"
6. issue this command to upgrade the kernel:
yum --disablerepo=Xen4CentOS upgrade kernel-\*

The commit to isohdpfx.S of 2009-05-31 looks incomplete.
The sequence of the stack pointers was swapped, but the sequence of
stack pushes was not.

Login with a NT 4.0 PDC
Hi all,
I want to make a Samba Sever as amember of a Domain, using a Windows
NT 4.0 as PDC. I have my smb.conf configured to do this, but users
ca't connect on Samba useing the Windows NT account. Is it possible or
I have to create them on a smbpasswd to make them login on it? I have
a Samba Server 3.0.7 running under a Slackware Linux 10.0, with Kernel
2.6.8.1.
I'm sending my smb.conf
