Inexperienced Wine user. Copy and Paste problems
Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to be posting this, if it's not, please direct me to a suitable forum.
I'm using WineBottler to create wine .app s under mac OS 10.6.6 for a number of applications, sometimes with success, sometimes not.
I had relative success running Power tab 1.7 (http://www.power-tab.net/) using wine bottler to run the install file to create a .app

Samba PDC and big files
Hello,
I'm trying to setup a PDC with Samba, but I have the known problem of the
roaming profiles: big files. I think it's difficult to guarantee that a
inexperienced user will copy is downloaded files, documents, or whatever,
to a H:\ share instead of is handy desktop. Other problem is the files of
Outlook or Thunderbird that can get big. The goal is to avoid email
configuration each time the user changes to another workstation, so I can't
configure the e...

Efficient way to substract all entries in two vectors from each other
Hi all,
I'm to inexperienced to come up with the matrix solution elusively appearing
on the horizon for the following problem and would appreciate if you could
give me a nudge ...
I have two vectors a, and b and need to find the closest match for each
value of a in b.
How to do that efficiently?
Thanks, Joh

Creating binary variable depending on strings of two dataframes
...in dataframe data1 (x3), which is either 0 or 1
depending if the value "E1" in y2 of data2 is true while x1=y1. The result
of data1 should look like this:
x1 x2 x3
1 232 1 1
2 3454 1 1
3 3455 1 0
4 342 0 0
5 13 0 1
I think a SQL command could help me but I am too inexperienced with it to
get there.
Thanks for your help!

[LLVMdev] Why the fault?
...= E; ) {
Instruction& inst = *I;
++I; <-- iterator should be advanced to the previous instruction
// Happens to be an Instruction::SExt.
// Works fine if I iterate forwards
if (isInstructionTriviallyDead(&inst, TLI))
inst.eraseFromParent();
}
Sorry for the inexperienced question, but I'm confused why this works when using a forward iterator, but fails in reverse. The iterator is moved off the current instruction so why would erasing the current instruction cause an error?

Few questions about members
...eed to start the 3
individual daemons instead of being able to use the init script listed
on the "get a start script" page.
Second question. We have a Windows XP machine that runs the
administration stuff from Microsoft. We do not see the shares we placed
on the member.
Being a real inexperienced Samba user, I'm not sure what to send or even
if I'm asking the right questions.
Thanks for any assistance.

rsync hangs when accessing through SSH (Leopard OS X)
...Terminal. I can connect to my server space using SSH just fine by
itself, and I ran rsync to sync two folders locally just fine. Is
there some special syntax I need to use when using rsync with SSH?
I've searched google and the mailing lists, and I didn't find much.
I'm fairly inexperienced with Unix, so I believe that I am the culprit
of this problem :-)
This is the syntax I'm using:
'rsync -avz /iWeb/test [username]@ssh.netfirms.com:TEST'
(I have tested using just '-v' and nothing is displayed)
/iWeb/test is the folder I'm trying to sync to the folder T...

icecast
Being one who deals with one software after another, and now looking at the possibility of using icecast to stream ogg clips on my website, I would like to ask before I go much further in the matter: Is icecast likely to introduce further issues and irregularities among visitors to my site? Will using icecast pull me deeper into programming, or will it be mainly a matter of setup?
Right now I

And, I''m calling this a technicality as someone who didn''t immediately
realize that before_create is invoked after validations. It makes
logical sense, but this is an issue that, most likely, many
inexperienced developers will/do encounter.

[PATCH 0/3] hivex: Improve OS X support
This patch series improves, but does not complete, OS X support for
hivex. There are several outstanding issues before hivexml and hivexsh
can run:
* hivexsh uses open_memstream, which doesn't exist in OS X as near as I
can see. Unfortunately, I'm inexperienced with autoconf, so I'm not
sure how to employ AC_CHECK_FUNCS([open_memstream]) to conditionally add
'sh' to the Makefile.am's SUBDIRS.
* The check for libxml fails, because PKG_CHECK_CONFIG doesn't exist on
OS X. I think it would be better to use AC_CHECK_FUNCS on some of the...

Implementation of W2K Group Policies from a Linux Server
...ver. There will be approx 30
Win2K/WinXP Client Machines.
Our questions are this:
Is this possible currently with Linux/Samba? As weve found little
info on this...
If so, are there Graphical Management Tools for the User/Groups
and Group Policies? As we envisage the possibility of relatively
inexperienced ppl having to at times perform simple administration
tasks...
What sort of minimum specs are we talking, for a machine to run
this service? (we will also be running a Linux Gateway/Firewall on a
separate box)...
Thanks

Openssh + AFS
...ion methods of openssh are
(not counting insecure RhostsRSAAuthentication)
1) public key
2) password
For users with home dirs in AFS space, method 1) does not work.
Except with (non foolproof) fiddling on the access controls within
the home directory. This might lead to security issues when done
by inexperienced users.
Without some work, only 2) remains. Being forced to send the most
intimate credential instead of an ssh-key is not that nice.
The use of Krb5 ticket passing with GSS-API is thought to be useful.
But the authentication is done 'under the hood'; the administrator
has no chance to i...

Big Brother with Shorewall loc dmz zones?
...tor hosts in both zones?
If Big Brother''s server is on my LAN (loc) is it "safe" to forward the bb
port from the dmz to the LAN? What would the security risks of this be?
Common sense says that it may not be a good idea to forward stuff from the
dmz to the LAN, but I''m inexperienced and unsure about this.
Or am I forced to put the Big Brother Server in the DMZ and have the Big
Brother clients on the LAN forward their status to it?
Thanks

a) verify that my sizes are correct or if they are too small
b) Tell me if anything in the speex library is supposed to be aligned

inexperienced in C).
