It certainly is. And, I suppose, this will work, for a while, as long as:

Last push to Mapstraction v2
...one - how are things going?
I wanted to see what the consensus was on last steps to push out the
RC for the new Mapstraction architecture?
Timing-wise, I''m speaking at JSConf in 2 weeks and would like to be
able to mention the new arch (currently talking about using JavaScript
to control immersive virtual worlds, but may try to switch to talk
about JS Mapping) - regardless it''s a great venue to show it off to
interested devs. Then again for Where2.0/WhereCamp.
Thanks!

Take Rails Studio Workshop?
In two weeks, Dave Thomas will be in Pasadena doing a three-day Rails
workshop. I''m about to sign up for it. I figure three intense days
with Dave and a few dozen other Rails developers will produce huge
learning leaps for me.
Then it occurred to me that it might be useful to ask the list if
anyone has attended one of these workshops before and, if so, how
valuable you found

What do I need to learn Ruby, Rails, JavaScript, AJAX?
So I''ve sort of come to the conclusion that if I wanna get stuff done, I
need to either A) Find some dang money and pay people to do it or B) Do
it myself. I''m opting for B. Soooo...now I''ve got some
programming/technologies to learn. I''m self-employed and I can afford to
take a month (or 2) off to totally immerse myself in this and learn how
to do it.

Converting SAS Code
I wish to second this approach to learning R.
I tried for several years to translate other stat programs or provide
parallel analyses with R.
This dabbling-in-R approach did not work
.
When a transferred to a research unit that could ill afford commercial
software, I devoted my entire time to doing everything in R.
This was a difficult learning process, but I eventually became proficient

Patch for GRUB Legacy to chainload SYSLINUX from logical partitions
Inspired from a similar patch posted on grub-devel for Grub2 I immersed
myself into the code of Grub Legacy and came up with this absurdedly simple
patch to allow syslinux or other bootloaders residing in logical partition
to be chainloaded from GRUB Legacy (0.9x).
Hoping it to be of help, regards

Pan in 6.2??
I can't seem to get a way to install Pan in CentOS, and I need it
badly. I follow most busy lists, including this one, on Gmane using Pan
(and, no, Gmane per Web is no use to me. I have some obscure allergy to
webmail).
Does anyone know an rpm (one of Fedora's, for instance) that I
can install and not immerse myself in dependency hell?

Centos for Interested Children
Today, an enthusiastic 10 year old boy asked me about Linux.
I thought of telling me to go to centos.org but then realised there is
nothing on centos.org for complete beginners to Linux or for children.
If anyone has the time, energy and interest, perhaps a basic technical
introduction to the Centos version of Linux would be a good long-term
objective.
Let's catch the children's

VGA passthrough and AMD drivers
Hi all,
I have made some tests to find a good driver for FirePro V8800 on windows 7 64bit HVM.
I have been focused on ''advanced features'': quad buffer and active stereoscopy, synchronization ...
The results, for all FirePro drivers (of this year); I can''t get the quad buffer/active stereoscopy feature.
But they work on a native installation.
The only driver that allows

[LLVMdev] Google SOC - Idea
Hi,
Here is a rough draft of the application -- a FORTRAN front-end to
LLVM. In accordance with the summer of code specifications it is split
into two portions: the abstract which describes the project, and the
details description which describes me and how I plan to complete the
project.
It's a little long, (but about half the max length the application
directions specify). Would someone be

[LLVMdev] Google SOC - Fortran Front-End Application
Hi All,
Thank you for all the excellent pieces of advice I got in response to
the draft application I sent out.
I have incorporated all (I think) of the suggestions into the
application and it's much improved. Here is the updated version.
Please don't force yourself to read through it again if you don't want
to. I'll submit this version with any suggestions I receive on the
23rd.

Goodbye for now, RoR
I started a php-based website a few months ago with a buddy of mine on
netfirms.com. I was perusing their knowledge base and I came upon a
quick-start for something called Ruby on Rails. Since then I have immersed
myself in RoR. I''ve done the tutorials, I''ve purchased the books.
But, I could never get even a sample RoR app to work on netfirms. 500
server errors.

[LLVMdev] Google SOC - Idea
Getting the front end for Fortran finished is definitely something I
would be interested in working on. I will draft up a little proposal
and send it out to this list.

a few simple questions about upgrading an "official" centos 7 release
again, some fairly trivial(?) questions about working with centos
7.4, given my time immersed in fedora so i want to make sure i'm not
carrying over any bad habits.
first, is there anything untoward in updating an installed version
of centos 7.4 with a simple "yum update"? i'm well aware of keeping in
mind the goal of stability with centos, so am unsure what the
philosophy is

For a 32-bit kernel, I did.
For a 64-bit kernel, I didn't but I see no
reason it should failed. I will try just to be sure.
