ILEC Interconnect
Hello Everyone,
We are looking to interconnect with a local ILEC over an OC-n transport layer.
They basically gave us two options in terms of mapping the SONET to the DS3:
* VT1.5s mapping
* DS1s mapping
The second option is quite clear. We would MUX the connection, and plug
the lines into qaud t1 cads etc... The tech mentioned that with the second
option we w...

OT - Number Portability
Sorry for the off-topic, but perhaps this will be of interest to other
asterisk based ITSPs.
We are starting service in a rural area where the ILEC has the rural
"monopoly". From what we have read in the FCC docs this does NOT exempt
them from number portability, but what does it take for us to qualify to
receive their numbers? To date we simply have a few voice trunks to them,
and a set of DID numbers we purchase from them. D...

OT: Please comment on Dvorak's troll
...say,
the SIP port. You could play wack-a-mole with port numbers, no?
Also a community based, Freenet style of encryption implementation for
"free" VoIP traffic would address this issue.
I raise this to the list because I'm sure there's a grain of truth in what
he's saying. ILEC's would be crazy to not consider this kind of lock in,
since it's pretty obvious that packet voice networks are going to supplant
circuit networks completely in, say, 20 years. Maybe sooner.

need creative solutions for number portability
I'm presently working on an office move and evaluation of telecommunications
services needed at the new location. I'm presently wrastling with an issue
related to portability and geography between landline carriers. Presently
certain people within the organization are hopelessly in love with our
909-822-xxxx number(provided by pacbell/att). As that number is presently
provisioned it

MeetMe: Zap channels don't ever disconnect. . .
...all back and come into the conference again; this time we
tried a "#" tone at the moment he left, but that didn't do any good either.
I waited perhaps a half-hour to see if *any* kind of timer would release
the line, but no dice.
Anyone know of a way of doing this when the scumbag ILEC won't give you
supervision?
Thx.

VoiceMail Access
I was looking at the ILECs' web sites to determine how their users access
voicemail.
I looked at AT&T, Verizon, Qwest, and Embarq.
They supported one or a combination of the following for calling from your
phone:
*98
#55
Toll free number

Asterisk & BRI in the USA - Episode 2 "The Phantom Sales Rep"
...care to thank everyone for your information on BRI interfaces
that operate in USA/NA. I know the responses are were limited, but the
selection of hardware is also limited. (Shame because BRI would fit my
needs perfectly). To continue, it's now been over 4 weeks since I last
talked to the ILEC sales rep about pricing and plans. Unfortunately
there has been no response. Which does not surprise me. I had an issue
with DSL with the ILEC basically looking to migrate to bigger pipe and
was "shined on" then. So i've decided to take the plunge into VoIP.
Got asterisk up a...

Fiber or regular DSL Supported Gateways/PRI
Hello Everyone,
I am looking to getting converged with the local ILEC here in Canada
(Bell or Telus), and was wondering if I can get some more information
about typical setups. DIDs and channel offerings from third party
clecs does not fit our business model and that's why we are looking to
purchasing phone numbers directly from the ILEC, and manging our own
PRIs...

DID VoIP trunk provider for metro Chicago, LA and/or Orlando.
...e), and/or Orlando (prefer
Winter Garden). If I can migrate some of my existing numbers using LNP,
that would be even better, but it is not a requirement.
While I know that there are several companies that will terminate VoIP
number using these protocols, none offers a functional equivalent of
ILEC DID service. From my ILEC, I can purchase one or more DID trunks
and a block of phone numbers (usually for between $0.01 and $0.10 a
number). I can receive as many calls simultaneously as I have trunks,
after that callers receive a busy signal.
All VoIP trunk providers that I have found, want t...

e911 Signalling
Hi,
We've got a dedicated T1 with two trunks running into our ILECs
selective router for 911. Split out of the T1 into two MF CAMA trunks
on ILEC side.
I'm trying to use asterisks e911 signaling, but I'm having trouble with
the dial command. (== Everyone is busy/congested at this time (1:1/0/0))
I'm missing something and I'm thinking it ha...

Asterisk BRI in the USA
...For a
small office such as mine it would be a great product. So her goes my
question.... What is a known asterisk working BRI card that will
operate in the USA. I need to weigh price/quality. I need to do
DID/DDI (or what ever you want to call it). Asterisk will do everything
else I need. The ILEC has at the other end a DMS-100. I have been
having all kinds of problems using POTS lines that I will consider it an
investment to move to a more digital connection. I am considering
going the VoIP route (Vonage, Broadvoice, etc...) but before I commit
either way I'm exploring all my options...

Call forwarding (from PHONE configuration) with PRI
...The only difference noticed between a
forwarded call versus a "normal" outbound call is that an extended
attribute of "Forwarded Unconditionally".
The (slightly edited -- I've edited the phone numbers to protect the
innocent) trace is below. Is this an asterisk issue, or an ILEC issue? I
have a ticket open with the ILEC as well, but they tend to be less than
helpful (their response has been to turn on their call forwarding option).
Any thoughts appreciated!

Asterisk in a Centrex environment?
Does anyone know what would be involved in making
Asterisk work as a voicemail system in a Centrex
environment? We have a Centrigram voicemail system
that belongs in the Smithsonian. There are analog
lines coming into the box and a 56KB data feed from
the phone company's switch.

T1 Hardware Echo Can
...oesn't
have a clue what I am talking about. Does anyone have any good companies
with competent sales/engineer people who would help put together a
solution.
Also, for anyone that has hooked up a echo can before. Do you have to buy
such a large shelf? Obviously things things are intended for ILEC
installs, however, I can't find anything geared towards the PBX realm. It
seems everything on Ebay is a 32 module shelf rack. Thats a bit over kill
for us.
Further, I would imagine this setup. Please correct me if I am off base.
I would have a straight T1 cable from the Channel Bank to the...

bandwidth.com will not sell me a sip line since the address is in Citrus Heights CA
I called bandwidth.com to buy a sip line from them for $30 a month.
But they said they will not sell me a sip line since the address on
the account is Citrus Heights CA and they can not provide services in
that area. On asking further the person clarified that there is no
e911 service available in the 916 area code for bandwidth.com
But other providers like www.broadvoice.com are able to provide

Using asterisk for a 911 call center....
Has anyone had any experience using asterisk for a 911 call center? Does anyone know of any reason why it would not be suitable? As far as I know all 911 call routing takes place at the CO switch so a regular T1 line should work fine. I understand that there is support for ACD in asterisk and that is should be possible to implement screen pop (CTI). Any comments?

How does Vonage support fax machines?
...est we could get was 90% success at sending faxes.
It seemes to screw up the longer the transmission, ie page 1 was usually
ok, but page 2 and 3 and 4 was at serious risk. So if I bought a Vonage
adapter, can I send a 30 page fax? My best guess is they have high quality
voice T1's, like from an ILEC, usually more expensive, and when they sell
a "Fax Line" I noticed it's more expensive. Maybe they route all their fax
calls specifically out these high quality T1's that they own, so that they
can do some type of quality control.
My test lab was a private network, a Cisco 3640 c...

Cisco 7960, Nortel MICS, Digital sets, ...
...a 'Services' button that I'd like to
program, maybe even with material that gives agents real time
information (such as any real-time network information I want flashed to
agents),
- As an alternative to above, we are considering the Nortel MICS
approach (like a low cost 6x16). Our ILEC supplies us currently with a
CO-based PBX service and we've come to love the Meridian sets. As an
alternative to the IP phones, I've seen refurb'd MICS systems for sale.
I read in the group that the phones themselves are a proprietary Nortel
signalling but I can front-end the PBX with...

Subject: Provisioning CO lines
I'm brand new to asterisk but not to T1s so here's my bit to contribute.
Each local telco {be they ILEC or CLEC} is different depending on their
CO switch and the software options they've purchased for it.
In Alaska, the "break-even" for switching from POTS to T1 is about 13
trunks.
Your telco will offer "regular T1" and/or ISDN-PRI. Up here the tariffed
rate on ISDN-PRI...
