Using Push IMAP to trigger POP3 download
Hello all, I have an HTPC connected 24/7 to the Internet running Mythbuntu. I also have a web/email host that runs Dovecot for email and provides IMAP and POP3 access. I understand that Dovecot supports Push IMAP and I could, for example, use Thunderbird to connect to my email host to receive instant email as it arrives....

Best practices for backing up small mailserver to remote location
My webserver also houses our mailserver. There's about six users on that mail system and I'm thinking it would be good to back up the mailboxes to my always on HTPC computer at home, which is reachable via a dynamic IP service. I know (or think) I need to use doveadm-backup for this but rather than reinvent the wheel (or use the wrong wheel altogether) I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good tutorial or wiki entry that shows the best way to loop thro...

MyhtTV or Freevo or something else?
Hello, I have the idea brewing for some time in my mind - to build Linux based HTPC. It would be used for movies, cable (analog for now) recording, Stepmania, backup station, etc. And I would like to get some information before proceeding to estimate the cost. Which one of the Linux projects would you suggest and why? MythTV, Freevo or something else? Is CentOS good for such ta...

Compile syslinux64.exe on ubuntu
Hello, I wanted to recompile syslinux64.exe (windows 64bit binary) on ubuntu. The default ./find-mingw64.sh script failed to locate mingw64 on ubuntu, even after root at htpc:~# apt-get install gcc-mingw-w64 So I had to patch the script to let it find mingw64 on ubuntu as well. Patch is below, please apply to syslinux sources: --- syslinux-4.05/win64/find-mingw64.sh.orig 2012-08-28 12:49:17.023627307 +0200 +++ syslinux-4.05/win64/find-mingw64.sh 2012-08-28 12:49:04.1...

Primary VGA Passthrough Status
Hi All- Is it possible yet to pass through a ATI or Nvidia GPU as the primary VGA card to a Win 7/8 VM, and have it fully functional there (DXVA etc), without crashing the guest or the host during operation or when resetting the guest? For hardware I have an E3 v2 Xeon, Tyan S5512 board, and an ATI 7750. Thanks! David _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list

coreboot & syslinux
Hi, I am looking into using coreboot to speed up the booting of my HTPC, while looking at the payloads they offer I thought that perhaps a syslinux derivative would be nice to have as a payload due to it's flexibility. Is this possible? or something you would be interested in adding support for? Regards, Ryan

Creating/Protecting a Subnet
I have an admin machine, and a backup server which does backups. The backup server has IPMI so I can do lights-out admin, and I want to allow this from the admin machine only. IPMI is completely unfirewalled, and so it must have a different class C than working networks.... this is just how it is. I''ve set the IPMI IP on the backup server to 192.168.10.4, and created a virtual

Silence Beeper => Which small UPS's actually support it?
Hello, I'm looking for a UPS that the beeper can be silenced with nut via ups.beeper.status variable for a HTPC close to bedrooms. I have googled extensively and there is not a lot of information about which UPS's actually support this feature. There are few references to UPS's that apparently list ups.beeper.status as being available, but without actually being software configurable such a...

Help me, Nouveau list, you're my only hope...
I hope I'm writing to people who can help me. If not you, then I have a serious inconvenience and am going to be at a complete loss for where to turn. Let me explain my setup. I have an HTPC with a GeForce GT620. It is connected to a Denon AVR-1913 via HDMI, because that does all the switching for my entertainment system then out to an LG flat-panel 55-inch TV via HDMI. Everything was working beautifully until it wasn't. All of a sudden, I simply cannot get the receiver to recog...

Any way to boot Windows NT (specifically Win2K) directly?
I decided to install Win2K on my "retrogaming/htpc" system to take advantage of the dual processors in the thing when I'm multitasking a lot, but, it's kind of annoying having to use first one bootloader to chainload my Windows 98 partition, then, via NTLDR, selection Windows 2000 to get to Win2k. I tried using the recovery console to...
