Starting a Linux application for a windows file in wine
Hello, This is my first post here, so please forgive me if a get some terms wrong! I want to be able to use Linux applications to open files from within a windows application running under wine. Here's why, I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 and wine 0.9.61 using Synaptic. I have installed a very old PIM called infocentral that was originally created by Corel and which I have been using for the

Fixedsys font
Dear All, I have a windows application running under wine on my Linux machine (Ubuntu 8.04, with wine 0.9.61). When the application starts it complains about a font called Fixedsys not being available. I can click thro the message and the application starts no problem and appears to be working correctly, so this issue isn't a show stopper, just an annoyance and is the last thing before

Samba 2.2.0 PDC Problem
I've poured through the FAQ and HowTo for setting up my Linux 7.0 system to act as a PDC for my Windows 2000 SP1 clients; however, I continue to get the "Cannot join domain, the credentials supplied conflict with an existing set.." error. Yep, I followed the FAQ for this error, followed it and I still get this error. I'm logging onto the Win2K system as administrator and when I

Backup server
...ay we currently do backups is to use rsync from the clients to two folders on an older server that rolls over every other week. This worked fine for a while, but the rsync is cumulative and the users generate a tremendous amount of data every day after having had a client upgrade with newer and hilariously fast computers for calculation. The previous *nix-admin set it up this way with rsync, meaning that we in the long run have data that is way obsolete and get increasingly difficult to maintain. As the backup solution must be next to free, ie "free beer", Amanda looks suitable....

Optional WHOIS netname on login banner
...#39;t remember what I did the day before and get a bit spooked until I WHOIS the IP and find the netname reminds me I logged in from that IP. I set out prepared to script it, but I understand that the reporting of failed/last logins is only really configurable at source, so instead of submitting a hilarious poorly coded patch from which I receive numerous critique and ridicule, I figured I'd just submit the idea/use-case and hope that at least one of you think it might be a nice idea. Even if I were to be able to submit openssh patches with code that is not awful, I think it sensible to check t...

Snow Leopard server as PDC: problems binding linux machines
First of all, apologies for our hilarious system architecture. It's this way for historical reasons. I had a setup that worked; I now have a setup that doesn't work and I'm trying to work out why. The setup that worked: OS X Tiger (10.4) Server as PDC. Linux servers (a variety of flavours, from Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to SLES 11...

apache refuses to start because of port conflict
Here is the deal. I''m trying out the latest Instant Rails and when I start it Apache claims that the web port is being used. "Apache cannot be runned : another Web server use the Web port" Okay, no problem. I went into the Apache configuration and changed the port it was binding to. However I get the same problem. The troubleshooting continues, so I install Apache by itself

[LLVMdev] Porting llvm-gcc-4.2
...for target specific stuff, how much of this still applies? cpp defines and startup files at the least, probably, for the com- piler driver… Which dependencies does llvm-gcc-4.2 have, besides the usual gmake, bison, working toolchain, gnat for building Ada, llvm? Specifically, does it also have the hilarious library dependencies (gmp, mpfr, etc)? What is the status of the other (besides C and C++) languages on llvm-gcc-4.2 r58565? I’ve read that Ada fails and Fortran has issues. How about ObjC, ObjC++, Java™? Speaking of Ada: is gnat from gcc 3.4.6 enough to build gnat/gcc4? Is there a recommende...

Element.addMethods() is not a function after upgrade to 1.7.0
After upgrading to prototype 1.5.0 and scriptaculous 1.7.0 my autocompleter.local died... firebug reports that effects.js is to blame calling Element.addMethods(); I can not find out why cause as far as I can see it does exist in prototype.js. [LLVMdev] Fwd: Minor typo in source file ObjectFile.h (CANCELLATION)
Here we go again... It took me a while to figure out that the stuff below is valid: ~0ull. I never saw the suffix written in uppercase before and the code below must be eligble for a price in hilarious coincidences. We currently have a SOAP server that processes incoming requests. I''d like to rewrite this system (maintaining the same SOAP interfaces) utilizing RoR. What is the easiest way to go about this? Thanks. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

What are the differences between systemd and non-systemd Linux distros?
...rce .. then the CentOS kernel would shift to that as well. CentOS is a rebuild of the RHEL source code .. therefore, it will contain whatever is released in RHEL in our base OS. Also, someone said we were 'forcing' them to use something they didn't want to use. That is actually quite hilarious .. since CentOS is completely free and no one HAS to use it for anything at all. It is also open source .. so you can use only the parts you want, and build and use anything else with it that you want if you don't like certain pieces of it. The bottom line .. we don't make the decision...
