Starting a Linux application for a windows file in wine
...- when I click on a file in Infocentral (running under wine), oocalc now attempts to open and tries to open the file. The problem is that the name of the file is not passed to OO correctly, the %1 parameter should pass the names of the file to OO, it does but it is corrupted. it shows as, Z:/home/hilary/infocentraldata/myfiles/filename.xls. OO shows an error message and then stops. Obviously for Linux the Z:/ at the front is causing some trouble (I think). I also note that if there are spaces in the names of the directories or files this causes a problem, but this I can fix. - if I leave off th...

Samba 2.2.0 PDC Problem
I've poured through the FAQ and HowTo for setting up my Linux 7.0 system to act as a PDC for my Windows 2000 SP1 clients; however, I continue to get the "Cannot join domain, the credentials supplied conflict with an existing set.." error. Yep, I followed the FAQ for this error, followed it and I still get this error. I'm logging onto the Win2K system as administrator and when I

Backup server
Hi all, I've built a new backup server for our linux-clients. Is Amanda the way to go for a backup-solution? It seems to be pretty powerful, if a bit finickety to set up initially. The way we currently do backups is to use rsync from the clients to two folders on an older server that rolls over every other week. This worked fine for a while, but the rsync is cumulative and the users

Optional WHOIS netname on login banner
I think this is probably my first post to this mailing list, so hello! Occasionally I log in to my servers from IP addresses without reverse DNS configured, so sometimes I'll see an IP I don't recognise because I can't remember what I did the day before and get a bit spooked until I WHOIS the IP and find the netname reminds me I logged in from that IP. I set out prepared to script

Snow Leopard server as PDC: problems binding linux machines
First of all, apologies for our hilarious system architecture. It's this way for historical reasons. I had a setup that worked; I now have a setup that doesn't work and I'm trying to work out why. The setup that worked: OS X Tiger (10.4) Server as PDC. Linux servers (a variety of flavours, from Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to SLES 11 SP2) getting user information from the server by LDAP and

apache refuses to start because of port conflict
Here is the deal. I''m trying out the latest Instant Rails and when I start it Apache claims that the web port is being used. "Apache cannot be runned : another Web server use the Web port" Okay, no problem. I went into the Apache configuration and changed the port it was binding to. However I get the same problem. The troubleshooting continues, so I install Apache by itself

[LLVMdev] Porting llvm-gcc-4.2
Hello, how would I go porting llvm-gcc-4.2 to an “unknown” platform, i.e. MirBSD? For regular gcc, I’d have to add stuff to gcc/gcc/config/ and patch quite some configure scripts, but seeing that llvm-gcc uses LLVM for target specific stuff, how much of this still applies? cpp defines and startup files at the least, probably, for the com- piler driver… Which dependencies does llvm-gcc-4.2 have,

Element.addMethods() is not a function after upgrade to 1.7.0
After upgrading to prototype 1.5.0 and scriptaculous 1.7.0 my autocompleter.local died... firebug reports that effects.js is to blame calling Element.addMethods(); I can not find out why cause as far as I can see it does exist in prototype.js. Here we go again... It took me a while to figure out that the stuff below is valid: ~0ull. I never saw the suffix written in uppercase before and the code below must be eligble for a price in hilarious coincidences. What are the differences between systemd and non-systemd Linux distros?
<snip> Every couple of months we seem to get a systemd usage discussion on this list. But really, discussions whether to use systemd (or anything else in the RHEL source code) really isn't appropriate here .. because, we rebuild what is released as source code for RHEL. If Red Hat decided to shift from the Linux Kernel to the Windows 10 kernel (or the Free BSD Kernel, or a Mac OS
