Ices is pretty easy to set up. Can you be more specific than "it didn't work for me"? ml On Saturday 27 July 2002 10:03 pm, Mark Hetherington wrote: > Is there a quick guide to setting up an icecast2 server? > Specifically I want something I can muck around with to test it out and put > into use later. RC2 better than RC3 ???
Since 1.0rc2 was released i have found that ogg@64k sounds almost like mp3@128k (in 95% of the 3000 files i encoded...) I tested 1.0rc3 and 64k bitrate (quality=0.0) gives less good quality than before. And bad : it takes longer to encode ! (1.7x vs. 2.0x on a P2/500MHz) Effectively 64k ogg files encoded with rc3 are smaller than files encoded with rc2. I hear people debatting on how satisfied

creating a station from the ground up
Hey all, I am looking to start my own station, but don't know where do start. I have edcast, so will use that to originate my programs. However, how do I set up a server to broadcast to? Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/icecast/attachments/20100505/edb6e275/attachment.htm>

...o setting it all up. My efforts so far have failed. I thought rather than just reporting the latest problem, I'd get a guide on how to do it, to avoid making a whole bunch of errors that will need to be solved seperately. How to make Vorbis popular
Ogg Vorbis is still not known by the mainstream and not widely used these days. I've been thinking about this... MP3 is so popular because people can download music for free (and thus pirating music). I recommend Vorbis to everybody I know, but most of them refuse to even try it because it's not popular (or because they are hardcore MP3 zealots), which results in a circle (little people

PROPOSAL: Sub-Tagging
I mentioned sub-tagging in an earlier post. Here's a more in-depth mail on what i thought of. One of the debates going on here are whether ARTIST is worthy of life. Another is whether the average user will bother filling in the detailed info Jonathan wants. Of course, all tags are optional, but nevertheless we should have a tagging-system that pleases _the_users_, that is, everybody: 1.

24/96 ?
Hi people, looking around for a new audiocard, my eye fell on the M-audio audiophile 2496. It has 4 digital in/out and is 24bit, 96kHz. The sound quality is very good, if I can believe the reviews. <p>My question is: can vorbis do 24bit, 96kHz ? -- --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list,

Some questions and problems about setting up Icecast2
I've finally decided to take the plunge and set up an Icecast 2 server on my Linux 2.4.18 machine. After asking in #vorbis, I was told that I need ice2 and ices. From what I understand, ice2 is the Icecast2 server, while ices is a program that sends it data to push to its clients. Am I right? After downloading both modules, the first problem I've ran into is executing the

Looking for a batch encoder program
While I am waiting for a 1.0 release of Ogg Vorbis, I made a "WAV" folder on my computer and have been regularly ripping CDs into that folder using Exact Audio Copy. Right now that folder has 3.4 GB of wave files in different subfolders. Is there a program in which I could specify this "WAV" folder, and it would go and recursively convert all WAVs into oggs of the same filename

(Classical) Request for Standardization of expanded TAGS
A month or two ago I sent an email to this list proposing to expand the list of "standard" tags for Ogg Vorbis. No tag would be required, but if you wanted to encode certain types of information about a file, you could use a standard tag. I went through the whole discussion, and revised my proposal in light of all the comments from everyone. Here is the updated proposal. This

Is there a guide?
Is there a quick guide to setting up an icecast2 server? Specifically I want something I can muck around with to test it out and put into use later. I'd like to set up a basic icecast2 streaming server streaming ogg streams, and either play from a play list, or preferably from dsp so I can record microphone and whatever other sounds I am playing etc. Anyway, I attempted this a while ago, I

Is there a guide?
I noticed another post where it was mentioned which modules were needed etc, then followed the instructions at xiph.org for CVS. It's working now, although darkice (which is none of xiph's concern AFAIK) seg-faults..... I haven't been able to test ices2 in live mode, well, it seems to work, but I get silence.... ices2 in playlist mode only plays OGG files right? So to play a mix

Is there a guide?
I got legitimate silence since I had no input in the line in or mic in :-) I've tested it now and I get real sound!!! (although I did experience some feedback problems playing xmms into ices, then playing back at the same time with ogg123.....) <p>I think I'll write a breif guide for icecast2/ices2 :-) Mark On Mon, 29 Jul 2002 14:48, Michael Smith wrote: > At 07:59 AM
