watching ogg/theora streams on win32 ?
...Player still doesn't recognize the video in my test Theora video clips. It seems to play the audio part of it fine though, although it tends to crash at the end. I tried RealPlayer 10 and after some archive browsing I found the link to the plugins for it (why are they buried on the website of helixcommunity ?). I tried our stream, and it sort of plays ok. The audio has nasty resampling sounds, but I'm running in VMWare so maybe that's causing issues as well. I tried VLC 0.7.2, but it shows me black video, uses 100% CPU, and resamples audio like crazy till half and twice the pitch :) I'm...

Helix and unrecognised streams.
Kind of an interim release, I have a copy of the Helix/RealPlayer Ogg plugin working in the presence of unrecognised streams, <href="http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~ibm21/omd_players/index.html#hxplugin> The patches won't go into Helixcommunity until I've put in a joint copyright document (and the stream end strategy patch still needs to be completed), but they can be GPLed so if anyone wants the changes just ask for them. -- imalone

hxplay versus realplay
Interesting. I downloaded and installed both HelixPlayer-0.4.0.187-20040615.i586.rpm and RealPlayer-0.4.0.186-20040615.i586.rpm on my Mandrake 10.0 system. With hxplay, the theora sample video, Mixtape.small.ogg, played as well as it does with mplayer 1.0pre4, which is reasonably well. But when I tried to watch it with realplay, the program choked and died. Also, when I tried to watch

Vorbis plugin for RealOne Player
Hi All, I am trying to build an Ogg/Vorbis plugin for RealOne Player through the HelixCommunity source. During runtime, however, I saw an access violation. I did some debugging and narrowed it down to the following function in the Vorbis source.. int vorbis_synthesis(vorbis_block *vb,ogg_packet *op){ vorbis_dsp_state *vd=vb->vd; backend_lookup_state *b=vd->backend_state;...

Installing a program with ies4linux
I'm under the assumption that I could use ies4linux to enable html in programs if I install the program with them. However, I have no idea how to do it. I have downloaded/installed ies4linux already (and installed ie6). I'd like to know since the program I am trying to get html in (RealOne Player) works fine, but when Gecko tries to load html it crashes and burns, and I was hoping this

Useful patch in the bugtracker: streaming MOH
So, Tilghman has put a particularly useful patch in the bugtracker: streaming music-on-hold is now supported. You can now specify .mp3 streams to be played back as MOH in the various places where MOH is used. Hopefully, Mark will install into the main CVS tree shortly. http://bugs.digium.com/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=0000413 This allows you to use the very sophisticated mp3 streaming audio

Vorbis on Symbian
Hey all, I was searching the internet and came across some code in the Vorbis repository that claims to have ported Ogg Vorbis to Symbian. I downloaded the tarball and was able to compile it on my system. So I'm new to Symbian audio programming, and even newer to Vorbis. :) Is there a quick 'n dirty API I can use to just start playing an OGG file from within my Symbian app, or do I

Where's TrueCast5?
Supposedly On2 transferred their Video Recorder and TrueCast5 streaming server into opensource along with VP3. Theora is obviously the VP3 project, and while I can find nothing on Xiph about it, the recorder source is offered on vp3.com; but I can find nothing on Xiph or vp3.com about what happened to Truecast5. I contacted On2 about whether TrueCast5 was really going to be open source, and they

Anybody tried implementing different streaming protocols yet?
Hi, does anybody know if somebody tried implementing things like rtsp, mms or similar in icecast so far? I heard some rumors from people complaining transmissions over http or not "that secure" because using a wget you can easily write them to disk. They suggested using real servers or something - but I wonder if its (easy?) possible to implement another already widely used

Theora I bitstream freeze
I'm pleased to announce the official freeze of the theora 1.0 bitstream format. We wanted to reserve the right to change things if we discovered any issues during the documentation documentation phase. We haven't, so there's no reason to delay adoption any further. The files produced by the alpha-3 encoder constitute the baseline of the theora I format and will be supported by
