Mailing List Etiquette
...you, you should not respond in kind, but
should try not to flame or bait people.
It take more than one person to get these things going, and just a
little restraint on both people's parts could prevent problems.
Can everyone who is a member of this list please read this document:

Especially the section "I've been insulted! How should I respond?"
Please, please, please ... can we be civil and not attack people

different play lists on different ports?

If you run multiple copies of icecast, they will be completely separate,
and work as two separate entities. I have run many instances of icecast

64 Bit XP client unable to add ACE on 3.0.24 Samba Domain member server
Hi all-
I searched quite a bit and couldn't really come up with anything, so I'm
posting to the list to hopefully find out if I have any options.
I've got a production FC6 box running 3.0.24-7.fc6 build of samba server
that's very stable for us. It's a member of an ADS domain w/ server 2003
domain controllers.
Recent 64 bit windows XP pro boxes are having the exact problem

Winbind separator char causing make_server_info_from_pw failed errors
Hi all-
In migrating from 3.0.2 to 3.0.8 on a box that's an ADS domain member, I
had a relic line in smb.conf like this:
winbind separator char = -
With 3.0.2, users connecting wouldn't have a domain and separator char
component, so spnego kerberos replies to the 2003 domain controller
would be fine.
In 3.0.8, users connections would have the domain and separator char
for spnego

Winbind UID/GID unification across multiple machine solution
I developed a solution to the problem where you might have systems
setup w/ winbind mapping GIDs and UIDs, NSS, and PAM setup so windows users
can login, but winbind maps possible different UIDs/GIDs from system
to system preventing unified UIDs/GIDs in your environment.
I tried having one box setup with NSS winbind / PAM etc. plus I made that
system an NIS master w/ a script to periodically pull

tripwire
Tripwire is probably one of must-have utilities for many system
administrators. However, it is missing from almost all recent Red
Hattish distributions. IMO, probably due to the fact that source
compiles only on i386, and needs patches to compile almost every time
new major version of gcc is released. However, in absence of good
replacement, this is all we have. (IMO, other tools such as AIDE

Yes, pardon, finger dyslexia.

Samba 3 PDC with Vista clients
I searched around and couldn't get a clear answer on a Samba 3 PDC and the
ability to have a Vista "business edition" client:
1. Join the Samba 3 PDC domain for single sign-on.
2. Access Samba 3 PDC controlled shares
I read that as of Samba 3.0.21 or so that NTLMv2 works well with Vista
computers (which default to only NTLMv2) so they can work with Samba
provided shares. This is

Winbind running on Samba PDC for shell logins
Hello all-
I setup a Samba 3.0.8 PDC w/ simple tdb backend and it's working great.
The full RPC based printing w/ drivers installed on the samba server
is sweet.
I know down the line I may want the windows users to be able to possibly
authenticate for other services like e-mail (via Pop or a webmail type
service perhaps) or shell logins on the same PDC. I didn't want to
have unix vs.

Wide open (security = share) w/ printers including driver download success story
Hi-
I wanted to share my experience w/ the list in getting a completely wide open
file and printer (w/ automagic driver download) with security = share setup
working.
My requirement was to setup a server for a small office of XP boxes w/ file and
printer sharing and had always done samba as domain controller w/ full logons
etc. No need for any security in this setup and I wanted to have the

different play lists on different ports?
I'm running icecast 3.1.10 (from the ports collection) on a freebsd 4.3
machine with a hacked version of iceplay doing the encoding. With older
version of icecast you could start multiple instances and tell iceplay to
broadcast to each one of those instances with a different playlist. This
version of icecast seems to only run one instance, even if I try to start more
than one.
So, I've
