Fwd: LARGE folder/filesystem shared to Win 2k.
...l Windows be able to access/utilize all the
space on that, or is it going to start erroring out at Windows' max
partition size?
(I've looked around and I can't find where anyone's addressed the
question, and I don't particularly want to tinker with a client's old
bubble-gum-and-duct-tape setup to test. We're replacing it eventually
but for now, we just kinda need to get it working.)
Thanks!

sampling randomly from general correlated multivariate PDFs
(apologies if this looks like a re-post, I just sent a similar message to the
r-help mail list. This version is via Nabble.)
My intended application is error propagation using the ISO GUM Supplement 1
approach (propagation of distributions using Monte Carlo strategies). To
automate uncertainty analysis I typically have the following data:
(1) a measurement function y(x1,x2,...xn)
(2) 'n' input variables (x1,x2,...xn) their means and covariances and
marginal PDF forms (I'...

CentOS or other Linux Internet Router/Gateway
...ty
Linux distributions for this purpose.
Once I do figure out what kind of box I'm building, would I still be
able to put my Linksys router behind it, or would the Linux box *be*
the router? -- and would I have to get a wireless switch instead?
Would a Pentium III handle this duty, or would it gum up the works and
make the Internet too slow?
Sorry for stupid questions. At some point I'm going to have to learn
about Linux servers. I'm hoping this project will help me get started
on that.
Thanks for any pointers.

Return values in fExtremes package
Hi,
I was usuing the fExtemes package, and wanted to obtain some of the values returned from the function gumbelFit(). For example, in the following code, I would like to access 'mu' and 'beta' from the object 'para'. How should I go about doing this? Is there any generic method to access the object?

metRology package
...number, which is
actually the seven times the uncertainty of one layer:
require(metRology)
d.set<-list(mass=m,Length=L,Width=W)
d.set.u<-list(m.u,L.u,W.u)
dent<-expression(7*(mass/(Length*Width)))
uncert(obj=dent, x=d.set, u=d.set.u, method="GUM")
I've tried other ways of defining the expression and every method option.
I suspect the expression is the problem area, but if so, I really need to
know how to get it right for harder problems. Thanks in advance for any
suggestions.

markdown conversions
...it required an appendage, or not...
i myself, with z.m.l., simply require that each header be
unique to begin with, thus avoiding that potential glitch.
and i assign an i.d. to each paragraph, because... why not?
that's how you give the user more power _without_ adding
more complexity. (or gumming up the file with any crap.)

sampling from general multivariate pdf
...ne help?
Other Stats Questions/comments:
* I'm aware the underlying joint PDF cannot be uniquely determined, but I assume for
certain simulation purposes sampling correlated RV's from the marginal PDFs is
sufficient (eg., my purpose is uncertainty or error propagation, using say the
ISO GUM Supplement 1 Monte Carlo approach). Is this assumption correct, or for
error propagation are there strong caveats to observe.
(ASIDE: The ISO GUM Supp.-1 does not provide advice on how to simulate RV's drawn from
multivariate PDFS for other than the multivariate normal dist. for which I can...

Can mount shares but not "net use" them
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Ok, I've made progress on my problems from earlier today, but have
one final sticking point that's gumming up the works. On a WindowsXP
box, I can access shares via \\server\sharename just fine. But if I
do "net use L: \\server\sharename", I get "System error 67 has
occurred. The network name cannot be found."
Any suggestions on where to check will be appreciated. It...

creating conditional list of elements
Folks,
I have a matrix as follows (first column is the rownames, first row is the
columnnames)
Rule Enabled Signal
Foo False foo_signal
Bar True bar_signal
Gum False gum_signal
Cif True cif_signal
I would like to create a list of only those signals whose 'enabled' flag
is True. So in the above
case I should end up with
signalList = bar_signal, cif_signal
Likewise, if the enabled flags were all set to False, then s...

A Mongrel parsing bug: "&" and "&"
When using url_for to send path to a script (such as with
auto_complete), multiple params are joined with the "&" code. For
example:
text_field_with_auto_complete :blog :post, {}, { :posts_path(:a =>
1, :b => 2), :method => :get }
Produces this script:
var blog_post_auto_completer = new Ajax.Autocompleter(''blog_post'',

Samba Internal DNS vs. BIND_DLZ
...as built-in DNS.
Why do I need to go to the trouble of running *two* servers for BIND,
bastardizing the BIND on one of them, when I can do everything I want
in one?
I am *not* going to be running Samba on one server and everything
else on another. This is Linux, not Windows. It can walk and chew
gum at the same time ;)

Xen on OpenSSI?
Any thoughts on running Xen on OpenSSI? We have an app we''d like to
cluster but is expressly and completely incompatible with the OSes that
OpenSSI are supported on, but if we can run several Xen domains on a
cluster we can run those OSes and, naturally, that app.
Thoughts?

If Samba4 can, and particularly if it's likely to, crash this machine:
Then Samba4 will not be used, and that's the end of that. If we wanted
to run machines that can't walk and chew gum at the same time, we'd run
MS-Win servers and be done with it.

I run samba 4, Bind9 and DHCP all on the same machine, what you seem to
be missing is that you run bind9 instead of the internal samba4 DNS
server. Whatever DNS server you do use, it needs to only know about the
samba4 dns domain (which also needs to be the realm name), any...

a commitment to underscores
rspec''ers
We''ve been living in a world for a couple of months in which rspec
supports both dots and underscores. Supporting both is gumming up the
works at this point and I''d like to commit to one or the other.
Assuming that all would prefer underscores, I''ve changed all of the
tests to use only underscores, fixing a few new problems as they
appeared.
Unless there is a surprising and overwhelming desire to revert...
