htdocs on NFS share / any pitfalls?
Hi all, i have a new setup where the htdocs directory for the webserver is located on a nfs share. Client has cachefilesd configured. Compared to the old setup (htdocs directory is on the local disk) the performance is not so gratifying. The disk is "faster" compared to the ethernet link but the cache should at least compensate this a bit. Do they exist more pitfalls for such configurations? Thanks LF PS: checking httpd's caching system now ...

How to Flash() a modem line
Hello! I'd like to Flash() a modem line (BRI) with Asterisk. It is a passive ISDN-card connected to a hardware PBX. I use ISDN4Linux. I recognised that unfortunately the Flash() application flashes Zap devices only. Now I am wondering how I could flash Modem/ttyI0. The source code chan_modem.c doesn't contain anything about flashing a modem line. So I tried to simply put the AT-command

OT: ManxPower 2005 European Tour
I've helped a lot of people on the mailing lists and on IRC #asterisk. and wanted to let people know that I will be in Europe between May 19 and June 21. Stockholm (VON 2005), Brussels (holiday/vacation), Amsterdam (holiday/vacation), and Madrid (Astricon). There are several weeks during my trip that I have no current plans for and may add other cities to my itinerary. I'm looking

Files not found on UNIX.
Anyone have any input on this one. I'm running Samba version 1.9.18p10 on an HP9000 HP_UX 10.20. An NT 4.0 server writes files to a UNIX directory and periodically a shell script runs to process any new files found. Occasionally a file isn't found for several hours after it has been created, then mysteriously appears in the UNIX directory. So far this hasn't been a major

Bug in samba-2.0.6
Solaris samba 2.0.6 with largefile support running on ultra 10 with solaris 2.7 patch level 106541-07. Clients are win98 and win2000 importing a 10G share from the solaris machine. Using a small C program that writes 1M chunks to a file I can write a file as large as the partition will support. Using the system backup program to write a system backup to a file on the share the program dies with a

Samba vs Sun automounter
A moderately-frequently asked question is "why do automounted directories in shares disappear?" The old answers were: 1) they timed out and auto-un-mounted, and 2) you shouldn't re-export NFS-imported stuff anyway. A new answer (0) was just suggested by a Sun techie: add a "browse" option to the automounter map entry, to make them appear even when they're not

Anyone have management docs for a Samba migration?
I'm helping out a Sun colleague, who has to present a formal proposal and plan to management for Solaris adoption. If anyone has docs for a migration, I'll happily scrub them of any identifying matter for our use, and if it's OK, for addition to the supporting material at samba.org. --dave -- David Collier-Brown, | Always do right. FW: : Re: Multiple smbd processes generated
Dear Dave, Doesn't this only work if you're using samba as a domain controller and the client says "net use h: /home" I've not got it to redirect "//server1/username" to "//server2/username" when the NIS map says "user server2:/path/&" Though if it could be done I'd be VERY keen. If there is in fact a definitive answer on this, please by all means FAQ or RTFM me senseless. Even if there's no gratifying definitive answer, comments on "it works for me" would suffice. All I need is an inch. Otherwise I'm closing the coffin on this project and recommending something else for this really cool top-secret collective project I'm working with that could bring an enormous amount of positi...

SAMBA and quotas on FreeBSD
Hi all, I've looked about and I can't find anything on Quotas and SAMBA with FreeBSD. The FreeBSD manual says that I can enable quotas and how to go about it, but I get the feeling this is just for shell accounts. Quotas would be useless in my situation if they did not work with SAMBA as well. All my SAMBA users have shell accounts as well and only save to their home directory - either
