X11/ graphics problem
...9;X11' but to no avail! I've also had a look at the requirements under R/bin/linux/redhat/9/i386-- but I'm having some trouble mapping these to the gui installation names, though Xfree86 which I presume contains libX11.so.6 is installed. This document also mentions preference for 'gnorpm'. Whats that? Has anyone else had this problem? have an idea what is likely missing? or how to reconfigure R? ********************************************************************** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidentia...{{dropped}}

I noticed this error in my demo from previous versions as well as R 0.99.0. Is there a way around this one also? Thanks in advance... > demo(dyn.load) demo(dyn.load) ---- ~~~~~~~~ Type <Return> to start : > dyn.load(file.path(R.home(), "demos", "dynload", paste("zero", .Platform$dynlib.ext, sep = ""))) Error in

wine not installing
I've recently installed RH Linux 7.0 on my home PC I've downloaded a wine rpm (wine-20010919-1.i386) to run my windows programs. But when I try to install it (thru gnorpm) it gives two dependecy errors 1) libXrender.so.1 & 2) freetype.so.6 (I dont remember this correctly) if I understand correctly, these libraries are part of XFree86 libs, so why I am getting this message ? and what is the solution to this?

Compile Problems
...with no problems. I've also copied the results to their respective directories as per the README file. I've also compiled the XMMS plugin with no problem. However when it is installed in the /usr/lib/XMMS/Input directory, XMMS locks up when it is started. I've checked with gnorpm and the XMMS development appears to be there. Last night I found and tried Vorbize-0.1. I get compile errors. Everthing goes along file for a while then I get this: gcc -Wall -O20 -ffast-math -D_REENTRANT -D__NO_MATH_INLINES-fsigned-char-I./include/ -c vorbize. c vorbize.c:59: vorbis/...

Red Hat 9 RPM requirements

It is quite useless compared to "gnorpm" which was used in previous releases of Red Hat Linux. The new GUI provides a dumbed down interface for beginners without any extra functionality for power users. For example, you won't find any packages that are classified under "System Environment/Libraries", presumably because...

Compiling R on an Alpha
Sorry to be such a nuisance but after asking for help with compiling R-1.1.0 on an Intel-based machine I now have another problem on the Alpha DS-10 server which my students use. Compilation and instalation proceed perfectly, but when I invoke R I get: [etdx01:bin]$ ./R Fatal error: The X11 shared library could not be loaded. The error was /home/etptupaf/R/lib/R/bin/R_X11.so: undefined

Samba Newbie
I'm in the process of beginning to set up Samba with the aid of the book Special Edition Using Samba. The problem that I have is that I cannot get the service to run. I am using Red Hat 7.2 - kernel 2.4.9-13. I modified the smb.conf file and get the following when running the "testparm" command: Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf Processing section "[homes]"

...il/samba/> Date: Mon Sep 10 08:45:01 2001 X-Original-Date: Mon, 10 Sep 2001 11:48:09 -0400 Sorry if this question has already been asked. I am new to this list. I am running Samba 2.0.10 on a RH 7.1 system. I was attempting to "upgrade" using the .rpm package for RH 7.1. When I tell Gnorpm to Upgrade, I get a list of conflicts with the old version. Is it possible to upgrade in this manner or should I compile from the source? Thanks for your help. Mitchell K. ...ing error message results when it executes: tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.) This has baffled me and everyone else I've asked, since the exact same command runs perfectly by entering it manually at the command prompt. As per suggestions in the list archives, I used GnoRPM to uninstall the 3 packages related to Samba 2.0.7, and installed the RedHat 7.1 RPM for Samba 2.2.1a from samba.org. The upgrade had no effect for this problem, aside from causing a little grief by installing some of the executables of interest to a different folder. I am still able to manua...
