Not able to connect to shares w/ cli
Hello,
I am currently unable to connect to any win98 shares from linux using
the command 'mount -t smbfs //share/c /mnt/example'. I am able to
connect using gnomba though. What does gnomba do differently than the
command I am issuing and why does mount fail?
Thanks,
sean

Re: samba and shares
Thanks, but in /etc/fstab I have username/password as options so I don't
have to type all that everytime ;)
What is weird about this situation (and what no one has addressed) is
why gnomba (gtk frontend for samba) will mount these shares fine but I
cannot mount them from the command line. What does gnomba do that I am
not?

Getting Closer
...I've checked the web... I've read the docs (DOMAIN_MEMBER.HTML) and the
SMBPASSWD man pages and I'm at a loss... I can't find the Diagnosis.txt
anywhere in the samba doc folder.
If it makes a difference I'm running Samba
BUT and here's the weird thing... I downloaded the GNOMBA package... and
using that I can manage to map a share that's on my PDC. (after I do this
I'm still grayed out in the PDC's server manager)
Any thoughts?

cannot get a list of Win2000/NT shares using SMBCLIENT -L with anonymous login
Hi folks,
From my RedHat Linux box Im using
smbclient L
to obtain the list of
shares on a particular computer in the network. I use
guest
as user
name or just omit the user name.
I can get the list of shares on every single Linux or Win9X machines in
the network but I cannot obtain the list of shares on Win2000 and Win NT
machines.
Here is what I tried:
[user1@linuxbox user1]$ smbclient

mount: only root can do that
I am having a problem letting users mount there samba shares.
The root user has no problem mounting . But regular users get the error
"mount: only root can do that "
when trying to execute the following.
mount -rw -t smbfs //jelly-bean-iii/E /home/ca43887/E
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Charles
