SE Michigan asterisk users group
I am thinking of getting an asterisk user group together for either SE
Michigan or just Metro-Detroit.
How much interest in asterisk in Michigan is there on this list?
I am already on the board of glimasoutheast, with is a group for
technology professionals. (very broad range)
It is a spin-off from Automation Alley, which is SE Michigan's version
of Silicone Valley.

Announce option for meetme - is it used?
It makes a caller record their name, but I do not see where this name recording is ever used.

SIP or Analog is fine although SIP (or IAX) is preferred for the

Finally, I decided to turn hyperthreading back on, and everything is back to normal.
Unless there is somewhere in CentOS 4.3 that has the processor count hardcoded from the install, I am baffled by this.

[OT] Wifi SIP phones - LinkSys WIP330
Hi List,
Hope everyone is recovering from the festive season :) (ok we still have
new years i guess!)
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has had any successful dealings with
WiFi phones and operation with '*' at all?
I've been keeping my eye on the LinkSys WIP330 (
http://preview.tinyurl.com/nccxn ) and wondered your collective thoughts?
Would I be correct in thinking that (as

Does irqbalance actually do anything?
I've got several SMP machines, some running CentOS 4.3 and some running
Fedora Core 4. All machine are kept fully updated. A few are
Pentium3-based and a few are Pentium4-based. They are all running the
irqbalance daemon.
The distribution of interrupts across CPUs is indeed kept balanced, yet
even after months of uptime ps shows no CPU use whatsoever by irqbalance.

Re: Asterisk start/stop
...asterisk
chown it to your asterisk user.
change astrundir => /var/run to astrundir => /var/run/asterisk
My guess would be that you are running asterisk as a non-root user and that this user can not write to /var/run .
if so, the ctl and PID files are not created.

dial D option with w for wait?
...ly on answer.
Is this a known issue?
Is there a work around?
My current workaround is to send both channel to a meetme that runs a
macro to play the tone.
This is way to much overhead to play a single tone after .5 or 1
seconds.
Please advise.

HANGUPCAUSE for unalocated number?
Hello,
On your BRI or PRI's what do you guys get as HANGUPCAUSE when dialing an
unalocated number? I always get 3 (no route) which is less than helpful.

Digium through Octasic
We're looking at using 4 or 8 port T1 cards with echo cancellation and are evaluating brands to go with. We know that Sangoma has excellent solutions especially when it comes to echo. But we still have to hear about actual performance of a Digium card using the same Octasic DSP echo canceller.
Would appreciate hearing something on this.

Fast Busy Followup
So I might have a bit of a more narrow question from my earlier one.
Previous, I had been wondering what would cause a phone dialing into a
DID that connects to the asterisk box to get a fast busy.
I've noticed the following message:
chan_zap.c: Ring requested on unconfigured channel 0/1 span 2
Any idea what would give me this error? And would this cause a fast busy?
Thanks again everyone

ARA extensions ordering
Hello List,
I am curious how the ordering of the extensions are determined for an
ARA dial-plan. For example, if I have these:
_9X.
_9011.
Which is selected first? Any number dialed starting with 9011 is
matched by either rule here and I don't remember seeing any ORDER BY
clauses when I had debugged the ARA queries. I'm sure I just missed
some critical documentation here.
