Sweave produces gibberish instead of apostrophe in pdf
Dear All, I try to use Sweave to make a document. But when I use the Sweave() command on it and build a pdf with pdflatex (3.141592-1.40.3) my apostrophes are replaced by some gibberish (an 'a' with a hat on it, a capital A with a arc pointing upwards on it and a capital Y with two points on it). If I manually replace the apostrophes using the keyboard, I get a different looking apostrophe and the output is correct. I'm using Debian Linux (Lenny) with TexLive, Kile...

"Hello world" displays just fine; however since your test config takes no user input, I can't say whether the serial connection works in the...

Problems with rsync, large files and partial.
...he latest. - There were some posts that seem to imply that if the file already existed on the "backup system" and using --append might help, but that didn't make sense. - I have tried with whole-file and nowhole-file and that does not make difference. - I do notice a bunch .file_name.gibberish in the target directory which is the partial backup, but it does not seem to use them in subsequent tries. It just seems the right thing to do would be for the rsync to continue where it left off the night before, but it doesn't. - Here is my command rsync --archive --verbose --progress -pa...

Who''s using --format rdoc
I''m doing some housekeeping and just realised that the rdoc formatter produces gibberish: http://rspec.rubyforge.org/rdoc/files/EXAMPLES_rd.html Will anyone protest if I just go ahead and remove it? (I can''t imagine anyone using it, especially with the much better HTML formatter) Aslak

TRD like tool for linux?
so I found that one of my VM hosts seems to have been compromised in some way; I've shut it down, isolated it, found a few odd things like gibberish comments and odd hostnames that I don't recognise pointed back to 127.0.0.1 in /etc/hosts. I tried TRD and it seems mildly useful, but has more of a windowsy feel for what it wants to be able to fix. does anyone know of something with more linux rootkit detection as a focus? I could just r...

Samba and " (and maybe other characters) in paths/files
Hello I have samba installed on my server, with a fileshare. When connecting to samba, using windows, filesnames with " (double quotes) in them become gibberish on the windows client. Under linux I connect to these fileshares using NFS, and the names are correct (I also created them this way). I've made a screenshot: http://users.webmind.be/~glenn/samba.PNG How can I fix this? Thanks, Glenn

Sim City 4 Not Opening
I've installed the program just fine, and it even started and ran just fine immediately after the installation, but now SimCity 4 will not open. Has anyone had this problem of it working fine the first go round but not at all after that? If you need more info, I'll be glad to give it to you. Thanks.

Asterisk 1.6.1.6 crashing
...weeks or so), it just stops running. I was using safe_asterisk but it seems that safe_asterisk did not restart it. I do have the core dump file at /tmp/core.myservername-2009-10-20T18:36:20+0200 but it seems it's from an earlier crash. When I read the file, with nano or tail, it seems like pure gibberish. Is there any link or tutorial I can read that will help me read / use core dump files for debugging purposes? This asterisk is under heavy load, it's a 2x Dual core Xeon at 3GHz and its handling around 210 simultaneous calls at peak hour with no transcoding, mostly SIP, but some SIP to IAX co...

Vorbis and MP3 file verification
Does anyone know of programs one can use to verify the integrity of OGG Vorbis and MP3 files? I've found that Ices 0.3 has a penchant for: 1) skipping files it deems improperly encoded, or 2) passing squelchy aural gibberish on to Icecast and then promptly crashing. The only method I've found is trial and error and Google has been of little help. Thanks!
