FFT
Hi, Is FFT implemented in R takes advantage of multi-processors? I ran this benchmark from from http://www.sciviews.org, and AMD Opteron 2.2 GHz performs better than AMD Opteron 1.8 GHz on all test cases, except FFT operation. Both machines run same OSs (RedHat WS 3) and 2.2 GHz has more memory (2 GB RAM) than 1.8 GHz (1 GB RAM). The only difference is that 1.8 GHz is a dual-processor machine, and 2.2 GHz is a single processor machine. C...

Broadcom wireless card: installation script for Linux-STA driver
Hi, I just installed CentOS 6.6 on my HP Pavilion DM1 laptop. The wireless card is only poorly supported in the default setup, so I decided to write an installation script for the Linux-STA driver, which works perfectly. https://github.com/kikinovak/centos/blob/master/6.x/broadcom-sta/broadcom-sta.sh Grab the files: # git clone https://github.com/kikinovak/centos Run the script: # cd

Chip Clock HT Cache Bus Speed --------------------------------------------------------- 5080 3.7 GHz YES 2MB 1066 MHz 5160 3.0 GHz NO 4MB 1333 MHz Does the .7 GHz and HT worth more then 4MB cache and higher bus speed? The application is VoIP so there is not a lot of IO so I would not think Bus Speed would matter. I am finding mixed information on HT, some say it is great, others say it actuall...

Dismal R performance of Athlon moble CPU?
I have been using a laptop computer of Pentium III 1.13 Ghz. I heard that AMD's Athlon has excellent floating point capacity. So I bought a Athlon 2200+ laptop yesterday. I expected that new Athlon 2200+ will be twice as fast as the P III 1.13 GB. I ran a R simulation program and the new computer is only 30% faster, in fact slightly slower than a Celero...

Problems with enabling hypervisor C and P-state control
Hi, Is there any documentation on enabling hypervisor support for both C and P-state control? On xen-unstable and linux-2.6.18-xen.hg, if I enable cpuidle=1 on the xen command line and then run xenpm, I will get output for C-states (shown below) but it complains that "Xen cpufreq is not enabled!" cpu id : 0 total C-states : 2 idle time(ms) : 73264 C0

Speed up R
...nd will help me. I must buy new desktop computer and I'm wondering which processor to choose if my only aim is to speed up R. I would like to reduce a simulation time - sometimes it takes days. I consider buying one of them (I'm working under Win XP 32 bit): 1. Intel Core2 Duo E6700 2.67 GHz 2. Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 3070 - 2,66 GHz 3. AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Or simple Pentium 4? I'm very confused because I'm not sure whether R takes advantage dual-core or not. If not, probably Athlon would be better, wouldn't be? I would appreciate any help. Rob

Help with AsciiDoc man pages
...ersion. So far, about a third of the man pages are converted, and I think it would make sense to have a second or third set of eyes compare the output to be sure that we are not losing any information in the conversion process. In the tarballs generated from the AsciiDoc branch on http://buildbot.ghz.cc/public/nut/ you will find the original man pages in nut-*/man/, and the converted ones (currently only one third of them) in nut-*/docs/man/ On most systems, you don't need to install anything - just extract the tarball, and run 'man' with a relative path to the man page (e.g. '...
