is a dual 1.5Ghz server better than a single 3Ghz for a 100 Iax users asterisk server
Hi everyone, I'm looking to buy a server that could handle 100 IAX users (g711)-(about 300 registrations) simultaneously. No zap channels. My budget is 1000$ us, Is a fast (3ghz) single server more reliable than a double cpu (like 1ghz) ? Will asterisk take full profit of two cpus? Isn't better to get a second cpu to handle system processes (like stat generation, backups...)? so that the remaining cpu will always be free for asterisk? I have also a 500$ deal for a 4 pe...

...wing scenario? - 4 IVR menu with conference applications for each option; - Only SIP/g711 user access - 3500 simultaneous users(800 at the beginning) - No ZAP channels Where is the most important point of failure? CPU? Ethernet? RAM? Im planning to separate in three servers: Server01: 01 Xeon 3Ghz getting the 1st level of the 4 IVR options. Server02: 01 Xeon 3Ghz with 2 IVR suboptions and 2 conference room Server03: 01 Xeon 3Ghz with 2 IVR suboptions and 2 conference room How it sounds to you? Denis.

Intel or AMD is better processor for router (800+ users)
Hi I would like to ask you which processor is beter solution for router? Please shortly explain why? I have about 800 users. For each I create 2 htb classes and 4 filters. Moreower router have dhcp serwer and lots of iptables rules. I''m interested in P4 3Ghz HT and AMD Athlon 64 3000+. What is beter choice for my needs? What parametrs of processors are important: clock, cache, fsb or something else ? Voice conferencing server capacity
Hello, We are building a conference server using a Dell PE 2850 3GHz with 2G memory. This conference server will be used to hold a large conference with 30-50 simultaneous users in a conference room. This large conference will take place two days per week for 3 hours each day. When a large conference is going on, no other conference room will be created....

problems with a pri (E1)
...(or it thinks it recives) yellow alarms at all the B-channels, after that it restart all the channels. When restarting the B-channels it cut all the conversations that is handling at that moment. Does anyone have an idea for what it is happening? We run a asterisk 1.2.1 on a HP Proliant ML310, PIV 3Ghz 2 Mb L2 cache, 1 Gb Ram. We have a TE210P digium card configured for E1. This pbx has been running for almost a moth before giving this problems, we have called our telco and seens that in their side all is ok. Dual CPU performance in routing
Hello I have question, currently using linux box as router. It only route packets. Currently there is 80k packets/sec and this cause 90% CPU usage on Intel Celeron 3ghz CPU. Did multiprocessor system like 2x XEON DP 3.4ghz will divide CPU usage between 2 CPU and will allow double routing performance ? -- Golem

operations on sparse matrices, and dense intermediary steps
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I'm doing some basic operations on large sparse matrices, for example getting a row. it takes close to 30 seconds on a 3Ghz machine, and shots the memory usage up to the sky. I suspect there are dense intermediary steps (which, if true would defeat the purpose of trying to use sparse representaitons). As much as I try understanding the hierarchy of Matrix classes, it's a mystery to me. Is subsetting sparse matrices...

Asterisk 1.6.1.6 crashing
...+0200 but it seems it's from an earlier crash. When I read the file, with nano or tail, it seems like pure gibberish. Is there any link or tutorial I can read that will help me read / use core dump files for debugging purposes? This asterisk is under heavy load, it's a 2x Dual core Xeon at 3GHz and its handling around 210 simultaneous calls at peak hour with no transcoding, mostly SIP, but some SIP to IAX conversion, and generaly I feel it's performing well. Do you have any tips on maintenance? Should I restart asterisk every day, or restart the server? Thank you for your help, Ale...

Playback too slow?!
I tried encoding http://home.tange.dk/theora/stream.dump with http://home.tange.dk/theora/optag-dvd 4. From that I got http://home.tange.dk/theora/dvd-4.theora.ogg. mplayer stream.dump works fine, but when playing the theora encoded file on my 2 GHz computer both mplayer and xine take 85% of my CPU while X takes the remaining 15% (i.e. 0% idle time) and the playback is no way near smooth. Optimal Configuration
...d to using mongrel_cluster and pound - its working a treat! Its far far faster than fast-cgi: operations that took a few seconds on fcgi now are almost instant with mongrel. Excellent! However, I''ve been trying to decide how best to utilise my equipment most effectively. I have a dual pro 3Ghz Xenon with 2GB RAM, and the server will be running a few different applications - some rails, some php. Seeing as I was using lighty before I switched im keeping my PHP on lighty and proxying through pound but my rails apps are now on mongrel, but how many instances would deliver the best performan...

Ethernet bridge overflow ?
Hello, I''ve setuped an ethernet bridge on a debian sarge 3.1 with l7-filter + ipp2 shapper rules The server is a supermicro p4sci + celeron pentium 4 base 3ghz + 512Mb + 2 ethernet e1000 One interface is connected to a cisco catalyst switch The other interface is connected directly to a CMTS (a sort of router for cable modem) configured as bridge too. More than 20Mbps of bandwith cross this bridge. Most of this traffic is p2p (~80%) When traffic goes o...

Bad Bad Performance; Max 20 Calls on Quad Proc?
...about 10 seconds later. I'm very dissapointed in this. Is this what I can expect? I still can't grasp why asterisk is not using the other 3 processors to better its performance. But then again, reading Digium's new benchmarks for their new card this sorta fits. They benched a dual 3Ghz Xeon and got 120 G729->PRI calls. Another thing is "QUALIFY" problems. All our SIP users are on T1's that are directly connected to our network. All our customers' T1 come straight to our Cisco 7206. Our asterisk box is on a Catalyst switch also connected to the router. Antwort: Buying more computer for GLM
...es a lot of time on this 1.8 GHZ Pentium box. Memory does not seem to be such a big problem; not much swapping is going on and CPU usage is at or close to 100%. What would be the most cost-effective way to speed this up? The obvious way would be to get a machine with a faster processor (3GHz plus) but I wonder whether it might instead be better to run a dual- processor machine or something like that; this looks at least like a problem R should be able to parallelise, though I don't know whether it does. Thanks for your help, George Russell

Performance of CentOS as a NAT gateway
We have a single 3GHz P4 box w/2GB RAM running CentOS 3.8, acting as a gateway, which serves multiple IP address, having one virtual interface for each IP, e.g., eth0:1, eth0:2, etc. These interfaces/IPs are on the public internet. Each of these IP addresses is the NAT address for a different small LAN. All of these...
