interface bonding
...tt/1.4i Is there any way to bond sniffer interfaces? I've read a little on netgraph and it seems like i maybe able to use that but i'm not sure how to go about that. Basicly the end result is to have snort listen on a virtual interface, which will have data sent to it from say fxp0 and fxp1. I also want to make sure that data from fxp0, fxp1 or $VIRTUAL doesn't get sent out fxp1 or fxp0 for some reason. ----- End forwarded message ----- I'm sure i checked this before, but a google search turned up this. ngctl mkpeer fec dummy fec ngctl msg fec0: add_iface '"sf2&qu...

IPSec VPNs: to gif or not to gif
I will shortly be replacing a couple of proprietary VPN boxes with a FreeBSD solution. Section 10.10 of the Handbook has a detailed description of how to do this. However I remember a lot of discussion about a year ago about whether the gif interface was necessary to set up VPNs like this or whether it was just a convenience, for "getting the routing right". A number of people said

Samba dosn't seem to work when bridging is enabled under FreeBSD 3.4
...er and on charon, and the reverse is also true. However, I cannot connect to any samba servies on Hades from any machine on the network (Neptune, Charon, and Tower). In my configuration, I have tried setting the 'interfaces' parameter to the default (blank) and to 'fxp*' (fxp0 and fxp1 are my NICs), and still have had no luck. After checking the log files (and setting the log level to 10) I can't see anything about any requests being made, let alone rejected. The ability to do bridging is important, as I often goto lan parties and need fast access to hades from neptune. Mos...

recent stability problems with fxp driver
I've spent the past four days or so updating machines here to 4.8/9-stable via cvsup, and have done a complete make buildworld/kernel on each machine (some SMP, some single processor). It seems something is broken with the latest fxp driver, on each machine (different mobos and hardware configs) heavy network traffic with fxp NICs causes timeouts and random kernel panics. First machine to
