arc furnace
Dear Prof. Gestsson
I am a control engineer student in IUST. Currently I am working on arc furnace adaptive control for my M.S. thesis. I read your paper in IEEE Trans. on control system technology, “System identification of a three-phase submerged-arc ferrosilicon furnace”.
I want to use your model for my project. I try to simulate your methods but I have some problem with the model. Would yo...

I unscrew the casing, extract the disk platter(s), slide a very strong
magnet over both sides of the platter surface then bend the platter in
half.
How secure is that ?
I can't afford a machine that grinds everything into dust particles.

DBAN is obsolete. NIST 800-88 for some time now says to use secure erase or
enhanced security erase or crypto erase if supported.
Other options do not erase data in remapped sectors.

Auto callout - reminder - is it possible?
I'm trying to get a script working on a website to send out automatic
email reminders to customers reminding them monthly to change furnace
filters. I haven't got one running successfully, yet.
That made me think - could it be done with a phone call using Asterisk?
A monthly automated phone call to remind people to change their furnace
filter?
I have no ability to figure this out myself, but can it be done? Has it

Is there any Asterisk controllable thermostat?
...nsion,
e.g. 333 and it asks to set the temperature, you enter a temperature, and it
sets the thermostat to that temperature. This thermostat will be very
useful, e.g. when you're coming back home after a few days and now its
snowing and you want home to be warm on your arrival, you can turn the
furnace on an hour before your arrival.
Is there any such thermostat available, and for that matter any other
Asterisk controllable home automation devices?

the only truly safe way to destroy data on magnetic media is to grind
the media up into filings or melt it down in a furnace.

By the way, the furnace has not been ordered yet, and it's beginning to
get cold, here. I happened to be in a Latin American prison, accused of

Mark Crispin - RIP
'Father' of the IMAP protocol. Died Dec 28.

Had a TOPS-20 in his basement that did a great job of keeping the house
warm in the cool months (I remember one BAR bof where he extoled the
benefits of this form of home heating).

Without any intent to contradict... This article I found to be very
instructive reading:
https://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/secure_del.html
As far as hard drives are concerned, it changed my mind about magnetic
media (hard drives): from "you never will be able to securely destroy...

Asterisk to switch on electric heaters remotely?
Hello
I'm sure someone has already tried this: I use a couple of electric
heaters to heat my office.
I'd like to somehow connect them to Asterisk so that I could switch
them on remotely by either calling the IVR or sending an e-mail to the
Asterisk host, so that the room is warm when I get to the office :-)
Any information appreciated.
Thank you.

1.4.0, IMAP and Dovecot
I thought I would give the new IMAP support a spin on my home
server, but without much luck so far.
Asterisk 1.4.0
Dovecot 0.99.14
Maildir format
C-client 2006d
The imap server is also the Asterisk server, so connections are
on the localhost.
The error posted to the logs is:
