best editor for .R files
Which is the best editor for .R files?
I currently use kate on my linux as it has R highlighting and allows me to
split the window into two: in one I edit the .R file and in the other I have
a shell so I run R and can easily copy and paste the code. There are some
features that I don't like and I am having a look on some alternatives.
I've heard wonders of emacs with ess but I am a

Fw: a bit frightened, guys
Hi,
I believe the issues raised by this message are the same as mine, more on a commercial sense than for self use, but mostly the same. I've seen posts where real-life installations are mentioned, but not a reference to how Asterisk is working on production (and productive) environments.
Any experiences would be very welcome I believe, not only on pure technical, but wider, sense.
Thanks

a bit frightened, guys
Hi,
I started looking into asterisk cause we're looking for a real-world
solution.
(when I say we I talk about a 50+ HQ and a 10+ branch office).
We currently use a Panasonic analog PBX, with home-made IVR and PSTN
lines.
We'd like to deploy most of Asterisk's capabilities through out our
organization - to save on long distance and international calls.
I've been

samba4 AD controller, production
Hello, list,
Anyone running a recent version of samba4 as the only one AD controller in the domain, *in production*? If so, what is your overall experience?
I am going to make such an install for a site with some 50 users (and frankly speaking, I am frightened ... so give me some courage!)
Would you recommend me to go ahead and do it? Latest release?
Any feedback is more that appreciated

non-ascii characters in TclTk
Greetings, R-Helpers:
A year ago or so I was able to use the non-ascii character ? in my TclTk.
(You can type it on Windows as <alt>0226) I can use something like
expression(hat(a)) elsewhere in R, but I seem to be doing something wrong
when I try that syntax in TclTk. The widget will run but it displays
something frightening like R-call_lang 019C8480 019A7724 where I expected to
see ?.

Old packages or Update R?
Folks,
I've got a box running Redhat 9 with R 1.7.1. I need the "foreign"
package but the one on CRAN is for the current rev of R (i.e.,
2.4). Problem is I am naive and also can't find the R-2.4.rpm
appropriate for RedHat 9. Can someone suggest a repository of old
packages or do I need to build (sounds frightening) R 2.4 for RedHat 9?

Is glusterfs ready?
Hey,
since RH took control of glusterfs, I've been looking to convert our old independent RAID storage servers to several non RAID glustered ones.
The thing is that I, here and there, heard a few frightening stories from some users (even with latest release).
Any one has experienced with it long enough to think one can blindly trust it or if it is almost there but not yet ready?
Thx,
JD

another yum question
Hello centos community,
I have a personal repository with self-made RPMs, and i need to include
this repository to yum.conf. But i've noticed that yum configuration is
overwritten when yum is updated. I can't update yum.conf manually on
my servers each time yum is updated ...
Is anyone have an idea ?
Thank you.

Migrating W2K AD to Samba?
After a frightening experience with W2K Active Directory, we've been
considering an "emergency migration" to Samba. I've been looking at
both 2.2.7 and the latest 3.0 alpha, but have found little information
about migrating from W2K. Most information seems to be about Windows
NT PDC.
What I've tried is to pull the information from the AD tree with
pwdump3 and put it in the

Get rid of those secret files.........................now . 1256
It's a fact
Did you know.........
For example that every click you make on Windows 98 Start Menu
is logged and stored for ever on a hidden encrypted database within your own computer?
your PC is keeping frightening records of both your online and off-line activity.
Pretty frightening..............
I was shocked at what I found.
Files I shredded months earlier were clearly visible using this

smbclient & NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I'm running smbclient 3.0.14a-Debian. I'm trying to view shares on a
Windows server on a Active Directory domain:
$ smbclient //fileserver/
Password:
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I'm pretty sure the username and password is correct since it works
when I use a Windows client to connect to the fileserver. What does
the NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE mean in this

CentOS 5 & USB Kickstart?
Is anybody else having problems with CentOS 5 not loading the usb
drivers for kickstart installations?
I'm passing "linux ks=hd:sdb1:/ks.cfg," but I get a message saying it
can't find the ks.cfg file and I should enter another path. I use the
exact same boot options with CentOS 4 without any problems.
What am I missing with CentOS 5? Thanks for any tips.

SSH over websockets
Hi all,
I can't find a working archive search for this list, so please forgive me
if this has been discussed before.
Has any thought been given to supporting websockets in the ssh client? I'm
talking about solely using a websocket as the transport layer, and leaving
the actual protocol intact, as opposed to the (to me, frankly terrifying)
idea of allowing a web server to act as an ssh
