[Wxruby-users] Something to keep an eye on (perhaps)
As seen on the wx-dev mailing list yesterday: http://lists.wxwindows.org/cgi-bin/ezmlm-cgi?5:mss:42943:200402:ennjfiogkccphebpmcfc

Assuming they keep the "wx", which seems to be their intention, we can still be wxRuby. Obviously this would affect our documentation, README files, and project descriptions. It is frightening and pathetic that Microsoft is pressuring them to stop using the word "Windows" in the name. wxWindows has been around for over a decade, and when MS first chose the name "Windows" (and Word) they were clear that they were not claiming the generic word--they were only trademarking the whole name "Microsoft Windows" and "Microsoft Word". Apparently they are changing their policies. Oh well. I guess this is the wrong list for a political rant. Suffice it to say I am disgusted. Cheers, Kevin P.S. I am back on line now, on vacation. Hopefully in the next few days I''ll have a chance to get back to the wxRuby release.

Sometimes you have to wonder if Ballmer et al are just completely oblivious to what actions like this do Microsoft''s already tarnished reputation.

"what was I thinking!">. Thanks to Lyle for posting this here. And, yes, its not going to have a big impact on us. It looks like the leading contenders for the new name are currently wxSmart and wxOpen.> It is frightening and pathetic that Microsoft is pressuring them to stop > using the word "Windows" in the name. wxWindows has been around for over > a decade, and when MS first chose the name "Windows" (and Word) they > were clear that they were not claiming the generic word--they were only > trademarking the whole name "Microsoft Windows" and "Microsoft Word". > Apparently they are changing their policies.I agree... its pathetic, and counterproductive!> Oh well.
