error starting client-server protocol (code 5)
I'm running FreeBSD 4.6.2 on two different machines. Both machines have rync installed by way of the ports library, but one of them is running it as a server. I followed the directions in the man pages for running the server using inetd. Here is what happens: rsync rsync://myusername@10.0.0.8/ rsync: server sent "rysnc version 2.5.5 protocol version 26" rather than

[LLVMdev] Re: questions about LLVM
...his to work; it may just be time consuming. >(3) Is LLVM able to compile HTTP servers, FTP servers and SSH servers to >VM code so that every single VM instruction (include LibC code) is >executed by the VM interpretor? > > Well, we've compiled httpd (Apache), ftpd, telnetd, fingerd, the GNU NIS daemon, and maybe more. We haven't compiled sshd yet, but it would probably work (assuming that you can easily disable the inline asm it will use for quick compression/encryption). In theory, these should work in the interpreter, but the interpreter doesn't get as much at...

[LLVMdev] Re: questions about LLVM
Prof. Adve, The idea is to develop a memory model where each byte is extended with 3 extra bits. Programs are running on this memory model. Load/store instructions, including those in LibC functions, needs to deal with the extra bits in a certain manner. Basically, my questions are: (1) Is it feasible to implement the memory model where each byte is extended with 3 extra bit? (2) Is there a

Apparent SNMP remote-root vulnerability.
I just had a remote root break-in on my machine (x86 running Red Hat Linux 5.0 with all the updates except for kernel-2.0.32-3) this morning at 06:03:28 EDT. From what I''ve been able to gather, it appears to have been through snmpd, which I missed when I was weeding out unused daemons. Sorry for the feeble message, but all I know (or at least strongly suspect) is that there''s a
