who's on
Hi everyone, Probably a dumb one too, but simply I cannot put my finger on what command to use in order to see who's locally logged on; let me be more accurate in my description: we run win98 PC all accessing shares on the linux boxes via samba. Several users & shares. When I use finger or who to see who's logged on I only get to see who's logged on dir...

strategy for doing an ANOVA on unbalanced data
...y, that will generate some ideas because I am not sure what kind of model I need to use. I don't know how to describe this succinctly, so please bear with me. This is my last analysis for my dissertation and I really could use some help. I have 3 factors: Mapping: 5 levels, between-subjects Finger: 4 levels, within-subjects Subject: 40 subjects, 8 nested within each level of mapping Mapping is crossed with finger. So, I have 160 observations; 5 mappings x 4 fingers x 8 subjects. However, these observations are not all independent as there are only 40 subjects. The 4 observation per subject...

HostKey checking and DNS finger print verification
...a client-server setup with about 100 nodes. We often install the OS and this results in change of host keys in our server. This necessiates the need to update all known_hosts files in the client machines. Im using the VerifyHostKeyDNS option in the client side where the DNS is updated with new finger print each time we change the host key. But still the SSH client verifies its known_hosts file even the DNS finger print matches. Is there any way to overcome clients local database checking if DNS finger print matches? What are the security issues associated with this way? Thanks, Senthil Kuma...

finger winbind & gecos
Has anybody run into the wierdness of the gecos info coming from winbind? Here's an example: [root@server]# getent passwd dflores dFlores:x:21509:13201:Flores, Dick:/home/DOMAIN/dFlores:/bin/bash [root@server]# finger dflores Login: dFlores Name: Flores Directory: /home/DOMAIN/dFlores Shell: /bin/bash Office: Dick Never logged in. No mail. No Plan. I know (IIRC) that the gecos field is delimited by ,'s. I don't really want to change the info on the windows side but I w...

openssh 2.2.0p1 and finger
Hi all, just I installed OpenSSH 2.2.0p1 on a HPUX-11 machine and it works. But when I connected to the machine and give "finger -R"-command then in the "Where"-column I see the hostname of the openssh-server instead of the hostname where I came from. RedHat 7 - key finger print 00:00:...:00 - fatal: xfree: NULL pointer given as argument
I had the problems above too. The problem here is the utility ssh-keygen of the RPM-package distribution. It just generates invalid DSA-keys with key finger prints of 00:00:...:00. The only solution is to compile and install the source of OpenSSH 2.5.1p1. Though if you're as lazy as I am and still want to use the RPMs (quite easier to deinstall) then just do the following: - Install the RPMs - Extract the source (tar -xf openssh.tar.gz) and compil...

Newbie: Crossing my fingers
I just ordered the Asterisk Developers Lite kit. My environment will be the RH9 Linux server and a Windows workstation with Samba. I also of course have analog lines and DSL. I am interested in SIP development. I already downloaded the Asterisk software. What else should I download. Is there a doc that basically tells you the steps to install Asterisk and get it up and running? I would like a

...unch of patches that have been sitting on git master for quite a while now but many of these have been ported over to the 1.8.x stable releases. Perhaps the most (in)significant change in this release is that we dropped touch events from the driver. Previously, when all in-driver gestures like two-finger scrollings were disabled, the driver would send touch events for other fingers than the pointer-controlling finger. This, in technical lingo is called a Really Bad Idea, but luckily (and somewhat expectedly) no-one seems to have actually used it since the whole client-stack would have to support to...

It''s been rewritten to record Sendmail versions, attempt to get unshadowed password files from anonymous ftp logins, and it could even be setup to attempt to login to servers with default passwords... which ''middlefinger'' does, exploiting finger data. See the next section for more on that. - Information about phf Scanning - ipd uses some ingenious techniques to gather as much information in as little time on as many hosts as possible. FC6 and winbind separator ignored?
...winbind enum groups = yes template homedir = /home/%D/%U template shell = /bin/bash (winbind separator is commented so that the default of \ is used). I have been able to do a kinit username@DOMAIN.COM and then a net ads join with no errors. klist shows my Kerberos ticket. If I run a 'finger username' nothing is returned -- but if I run a 'finger AVWORLD\\username' the entry _is_ returned. Why isn't winbind making use of my winbind separator? Oh yes, this is part of Samba 3.0.23c-2 (part of Fedora Core 6). Thanks in advance! Ray

*ALERT*: ADM Worm. Worm for Linux x86 found in wild.
...d file. As far as I can tell, the worm is capable of detecting several well-known vunerabilities. The logs the Russian company sent us, and the logs that the worm itself kept, would seem to indicate it's scanning IMAP ports. It also seems to be scanning POP, rsh/rlogin, telnet and FTP ports, finger, gopher, etc... Once it's into your system, the worm presumably begins to scan and look for vunerable machines again. How it picks the IP addresses to scan is not presently known to me. Presumably, the "gimmieip" binary takes care of that. Someone with more time can dissect it and...

My big fingers have gotten me into trouble (all be it minor, I think.) I have had a single DC and member server working for a few weeks and decided to move forward setup the second DC. When I set the hostname I inadvertently added an addition letter into the name. Unfortunately I discovered this after I had...
