Authentication to a trusted domain
...e tell me if what I'm trying to do is possible with
Samba? This authentication across trusted domains problem is
driving me nuts. Please & thanks.
My Samba server, cachalot: RedHat 7.2, Samba 2.2.3a, Winbind is
running.
Cachalot belongs to the NT domain PHS-SC, which trusts the NT domain
FHCRC.
Cachalot is added to the PHS-SC domain as a "workstation or server"
via the Server Manager app. I can browse "My Network Places" and
find cachalot, and its "homes" share, where my Linux home directory
lives.
My client is a PC running W2k Pro, I think SP2. It's...

AnonCVS
Hi All,
I would like to use anonymous cvs, but it appears not to be working
(again?). There was a discussion back in Jan-Feb about whether to
continue supporting it, but it seemed that Tony Rossini got it working
and the discussion left off there. Did someone decide to disable it, or
is it just not working properly?
Here's the details:

install.packages() removes package on Windows
Hi,
Starting with the XML package installed:
> "XML" %in% rownames(installed.packages())
[1] TRUE
>
I ran the following script:
pkgs <- c("XML")
for (i in 1:100)
{
install.packages(pkgs, repos="http://cran.fhcrc.org")
if (!all(pkgs %in% rownames(installed.packages())))
{
print("failed to install pkgs!")
print(paste("Iteration", i))
break
}
}
And it failed on the third iteration:

something wrong with the R repository USA(WA) (fhcrc.org)
I have temporarily changed my working place and now checking for updates the R
repository at the University of Washington, closest to me.
It doesn't give updates.
call update.packages(ask=FALSE) with repository USA(WA) didn't do anything, but
call update.packages(ask=FALSE) with repository Austria has updated the lattice
package.

Error: package 'pcvsuite' was built before R 2.10.0: please re-install it
R-helpers,
I have had difficulty installing the "pcvsuite" package on R version 2.12.0 (2010-10-15). The pcvsuite package is not available on CRAN, but is located for download at the following website at the University of Washington:

Can't install rjags on LinuxMint 12
Hi,
I'm trying to install rjags and R2jags with R version 2.14.1 (2011-12-22)
on
Linux Mint 12 machine using
software repository:
deb http://cran.fhcrc.org/bin/linux/ubuntu oneiric/
jags seems to install OK, but rjags gives a weird error about not finding
fprec symbol.
Here is a history of the problem including several attempts to work
around it.
(Because of Ben Bolker's recent post, I first removed jags)
sudo apt-get remove jags

Updating R 2.15.0 to 2.15.2
Dear R users,
I hope you all are doing great. Is there a way to automatically upgrade my R
2.15.0 to the new R 2.15.2 release instead of having to reinstall the new
release?
Any information regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Paul

density() returns a density function that does not add up to 1
Dear R users,
I ran into this curious problem:
> d <- rnorm(100)
> d.density <- density(d)
> sum( d.density$x * d.density$y)

Admittedly the method of computing the mass under the density curve at
line 3 is crude.
But 2.5 is pretty far from 1, the value it should be.
I tried a few other dataset and got similar result. Am I missing
something obvious?
Or is the return

XEmacs vs. GNU Emacs?
As a user of only R, I don't use much of the potential of ESS and Emacs.
Without entering a religious feud, is there any reason I should use XEmacs
rather than my current GNU Emacs?
(I looked on the XEmacs site, but I didn't understand the programming
issues they were talking about (over my head).)
