vixie-cron package from RHEL 5 FasTrack?
...CentOS 5.2: http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2008-0586.html I have users who can't run cron jobs because their home directories are NFS mounted, and I believe installing this RPM would fix the problem. I remember reading that the CentOS developers are working on supporting the RHEL FasTrack mechanism, but other than that I am not very familiar with the purpose and workings of FasTrack. For instance, will RHEL 5 Update 3 (and therefore CentOS 5.3) include this fix? Why wouldn't this RPM make it into the current update stream since it was released 6 months ago? Alfred

CentOS FastTrack repository
The upstream provider has started a new channel called fastrack. It is detailed here (see the whole thread): https://www.redhat.com/archives/nahant-list/2006-April/msg00001.html CentOS will also build the fastrack SRPMS. We have created separate repositories in CentOS-3 and CentOS-4 called fasttrack. (I know the spelling is different, that is by design. W...

Missing update / update announcement
Hi, the C5 updates to openoffice.org-2.0.4-5.4.26 are available on the mirrors, but no announcement has come through the centos-announce mailing list yet. Also, upstream has released gnome-screensaver-2.16.1-5.el5_1.1 and gnome-screensaver-2.16.1-8.el5 (FasTrack channel) beginning of April. Neither is available yet for C5. Best regards, Bernd.

Fasttrack Repo on CentOS 4
A quick question on the fasttrack repo which is now up to date with upstream. Why is the fasttrack repo not in the main CentOS-Base.repo file but contrib which has never had anything is included in the main CentOS-Base.repo file? The goal of CentOS is to be binary-compatible with upstream so fasttrack is "more important" in this regard than contrib. Upsteam ships with the main channels

Wiki links broken
> I will change the instructions on the wiki to say to edit the files > that are included in the centos-release rpm. Thanks, Johnny. That's not really my problem. My problem is that I now need to track an additional channel for updates, with associated local mirror and scripting. I was only vaguely aware of it until I was looking for an update I know I saw in the announce digest

Recommended REPO Setup for Desktop on Cos5
...any "special needs" software. I am struggling a bit with the plethora of repos and looking for some advice. Would you opine with detail on the best repo setup for a desktop CentOS 5? Comments: rpmforge provides fine rpms. kbsingh, google, adobe, kde-redhat, CentOS-Testing , CentOS-fastrack, epel, ATRPMs also provide fine RPMs. epel seems to have some stuff that I have not found on the others (like gnucash), but enabling epel worries me about conflicts with rpmforge et al. I recalling hearing about priorities and protectbase yum plugins. My thinking is someone has mastered these...

why no recent bind update for CentOS 6?
...s longer dist tags (.el6_5, .el7_1, etc) for updates that happen between point releases. So, if they do an update after the RHEL 6.7 release, before they release 6.8, it will likely have a dist tag of .el6_7 For releases that happen on a point release (ie, for the 6.7 GA release) .. OR into their FasTrack repo, they normally use .el6 (or .el7, etc). CentOS Linux normally also follows the upstream dist tags, except for packages where we make changes, where we use .el6.centos on those to denote we have modified them. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Re: rhel 4.4 perl update looses weakref support?
...EC file (and patches) of official SRPMs are stored (an tagged accordingly). This could be set up automatically and fed automatically. Having something like this would help a lot of people trace problems and it would help people rebuilding packages to see what changes have been made by Red Hat. Fastrack and beta packages would give a few of ongoing changes and people could subscribe to the "svn-commits" as the are being made. Of course, this would not hold the CentOS specific changes (or other CentOS related projects) only the upstream changes. Otherwise it would be harder to follow...

Missing CentOS 4.7 update?
Unless I'm mistaken, does it look like Centos 4.7 is missing an update released on December 3rd 2008? Upstream details :- http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2008-0989.html An updated tmpwatch package that fixes various bugs is now available. New L7-Filter patterns for Kademlia / eMule?
I had been using L7-Filter[1] successfully for edonkey/eMule traffic until recently. I upgraded to the latest release of mldonkey, 2.5.28a, which implements eMule compatibility, and with support for Kademlia[2] enabled, network latency increases greatly. RHEL 5.3 Beta released, beta-testers needed
Hi all, The CentOS community is pretty limited in what we can do to the core distribution. Since our mantra is "aiming to be 100% compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux" we cannot fix bugs or improve the CentOS core without waiting for Red Hat to make those modifications first. We have limited leverage and a 6-month release cycle against us. But that is not the complete truth,
