fairnat with squid + Squid with ZPH
Hi, I''m trying to share internet on a LAN I''ve a linux router with SQUID (with ZPH support) + FAIRNAT The idea is: - fairness sharing internet - priorize interactive traffic - if a web object is on squid-cache (HIT), user can download it, with a rate = LAN rate I''ve: - Last Fairnat Script: www.metamorpher.de/fairnat/ - SQUID 2.5STABLE5 with ZPH patch http://www.it-academy.bg/zph/ - p...

shaping a ciber cafe
Hi, I''m looking for a script in order to do traffic control on a ciber cafe LAN, with linux router. Ciber has about 40 hosts, and I haven''t much bandwidth (512kbit). Also, I''ve a squid cache and it works very good! I''ve found Jim QoS script, and FairNat. Which is more suitable for me ? Jim QoS ? FairNat ? other ? If I put FairNat, I would need ZPH patch for my squid ? thank you bests. andres _______________________________________________ LARTC mailing list / LARTC@mailman.ds9a.nl http://mailman.ds9a.nl/mailman/listinfo/lartc HOWTO: http://l...

Hardware solution? (or v.easy software fix instead)
...oach to this? I want to find a solution that involves less steps to make mistakes on because I haven''t had it working properly yet. Can anyone fix this?
Hi, I appologise for the bad ettiquite of this, but I have tried looking for some HTB examples that would help me, and am having trouble understanding how the tc filters should work, but I can''t figure out why this isn''t working. I''ve written this script, based upon the ultimate traffic shaper at LARTC, to try and shape for me and my 3 housemates. The idea being to

Connections direct to the gateway
Hi, I use the fairnat scripts on a linux gateway, on this gateway runs a transparent web proxy, a local web server and some other few applications for the clients in the lan. Using this scripts limits the bandwidth of the connection to the gateway too so for example the proxy become unuseful. It is possibile with some r...

Internet Cafe tcp and udp sharing
Hi guys, I run an internet cafe with 40 odd computers in it and would like some sugestions on sharing the data evenly for udp and tcp data. Currently i have all tcp data put into a class thats half our link speed and udp data doesnt get class''d at all. which works well but also means that the line doesnt get shared in terms of bandwidth evenly. What i would like tho is to setup a

HTB, MPU, and suitable values
It seems Andreas Klauer''s fairnat has experimental support for using HTB''s MPU and overhead options. fairnat.config: # Use MPU for HTB. From the LARTC Howto on MPU: # "A zero-sized packet does not use zero bandwidth. For ethernet, no packet # uses less than 64 bytes. The Minimum Packet Unit determines the minimal...

How to define class type hierarchy of speeds?
Hi I''m very very new to tc iproute etc and have read the LARTC howto. What I want to do is create some "master" classes of bandwidth limit and below that per ip address which "inherits" from this master class. Example: one queue for 128Kbps other queue for 256Kbps What I want now is that for example in "class" 128Kbps the ip 10.0.0.5, 10.0.0.8 etc. goes

Traffic shaping: upload should not hurt download
Hello! I have a small home network and I''d like to use traffic shaping because every time someone uploads a file at full speed, my download speed drops to ~10 KB/s. My connection is 768/128 DSL. I found a script at http://www.knowplace.org/shaper/examples.html $TC qdisc add dev $INTERFACE root handle 1: htb default 60 $TC class add dev $INTERFACE parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 116kbit

Strategy for penalising IPs with too many simultaneous sessions
Hi all, I have been trying to investigate traffic shaping in an effort to solve the "unfriendly network apps" problem on a test network. I have a basis by which I''d like to shape traffic, but studying the howto doesn''t uncover and existing qdisc that seems to fit what I would like to do. The problem I would like to address is to prevent an IP address opening 10

Too stupid to figure out shaping
First I''ll confess my sins, then I''ll beg for help. I own a small wireless ISP, and I sell service at three levels, 256kb/s, 384kb/s, and 512kb/s. For about 18 months, I thought I had this bandwidth limiting figured out. I had three HTB classes off the root, one each with the limits above. Since each customer has a single IP address, I used iptables to mark packets

Fair shaping over link with variable parameters
Hi. I would like to ask you for advice. I am trying to construct following shaping solution: * several users are using one link to the Internet * all of them have equal priority and should be given fair amount of bandwidth * no kind of traffic is considered more important than other * our Internet connection has no CIR, only "maximum dl/ul speeds" given by provider * most important:

Help with prioritizing internet Cafe Terminals
Hi All, I am new to tc so please forgive me. I have read as much documentation as I can get my hands on, but I still have problems with getting the rules right. Here is my scenario: Internet Cafe/Office 4 Internet Cafe Terminals 3 Office Terminals Leased Line connectivity at 64Kbps. What I would like to have: All Cafe terminals have priority to the internet over the office machines. Each
