External MW Lamp On/Off
One of the connections my asterisk PBX has is an analog
extension from a Comdial hybrid.
On the Comdial system, message waiting is turned on by dialing
*3 and then the station number.
It is turned off by dialing #3 and the station number.
I was wanting to have Asterisk (or Comedian mail) set the
message lamp in the Comdial system when a new message arrives for a
user, and extinguish the lamp

Asterisk and ATA-186 question-- calling one port from the other port..
Hi -
I need to configure Asterisk (Trixbox 2.2) and my ATA-186 with both
ports.
I need to be able to call one port from the other-- the idea is to have
two phones in two different locations that _can_ call each other.
So, in reading the Asterisk Wiki and other sites, the best documentation
I found was this:

UPS auto restart problem upgrading from nut 2.0.1-2.2.0 with MGE Pulsar EXtreme 700C
...delay once my O/S is halted, then switch power on to the load
when AC returns. I found that the UPS failed to resume power when I
connected AC back to the UPS. I tested this a few times always with
the same result. The UPS just sits there with the LED's slowly lighting
in sequence then extinguishing in reverse sequence). upsdrvctl outputs
the same text as it did previously just before shutdown. Can't remember
what exactly, but something like "UPS responds auto restart request OK,
UPS responds shutdown request OK".
I compiled the 2.0.1 version of nut on the new O/S and every...

Survival analysis
Dear all
I have a dataset examining the probability of a population surviving
(calculated from a logistic regression) of a species over a 200yr period.
The predictor variables are either continuous but non-normal (e.g.
temperature, oxygen) or categorical (e.g. channelisation), unfortunately I
also have a large amount of missing values.

NUT and POWERCOM SMART KING
Hi Alex,
I've forwarded your request to the nut-upsuser mailing list.
Please follow the discussion there.
I'm also not sure to have well understood your issue.
Don't hesitate to explain it a bit more if I'm wrong...

Suggestion for tagging flac w/ cuesheets
Hi,
I'd like to make a simple suggestion for tagging flac files containing
cue-sheets.
As discussed in "cuesheets w/ PERFORMER & TITLE track info" there is no
standard for doing this yet.
The developers were not willing to adopt the integrated cuesheet
functionality for handling performer/artist information. I share this
opionion since that would mean to sacrifice a very

Asterisk/VOIP to PSTN (?)
I'm researching an asterisk implementation for a client. Originally, they wanted a T1 (as other vendors had quoted such). Now tho, they are asking about "just doing VOIP", cause fortune 500's seem to be so successful at it.
That questionable assertion aside, I see there are a lot of outfits (Asterisk2PSTN, for one) that seem to offer what I think it required, a means for

BT IP Exchange interconnect
Hi All,
Has anyone passed the tests using Asterisk:
http://www.btwholesale.com/pages/static/Products/Converged_Voice/IP_Exchange.html
I presume the same rules apply for scaling and possibly have
OpenSIPS/Kamailio on the front?
Thanks.

Linux UNFSD Security Problems
I've got egg on my face... There is a nasty security hole in the
User-space NFS servers. If you are running an NFS server, please
upgrade as soon as possible to the latest release,
nfs-server-2.2beta35.tar.gz, which can be found at
ftp://linux.mathematik.tu-darmstadt.de/pub/linux/people/okir
All previous releases are vulnerable.

The poisoned NUL byte
Summary: you can exploit a single-byte buffer overrun to gain root privs.
When, half a day after releasing version 2.2beta37 of the Linux nfs server,
I received a message from Larry Doolittle telling me that it was still
vulnerable to the root exploit posted to bugtraq, I was ready to quit
hacking and start as a carpenter...
Tempting as that was, I didn''t, and started looking for the

Swissvoice ip10s MGCP questions and experiences
Hi there,
here some questions and experiences after playing for one day with 3
Swissvoice ip10s and the latest * CVS:
QUESTIONS:
- what is the user option "enter voice mail number" good for? It doesn't
appear to be of any practical use
- does anyone have some Swissvoice info that I cannot find on their web
site like the guide to MGCP XML (.svd), guide to configuration file

We all would prefer that, but I think you know that in reality, very few
customers have enough leverage to achieve that.? I have a number of IBM
servers for which access to the remote console now requires old versions
of Java and old browsers.? That's IBM.? If

rh62 suid files
Hi,
I believe having less root setuid binaries on system is The Way ...
so:
Why does RH6.2 ships with /sbin/dump & /sbin/restore root setuid? These
are for sysadmins, not for regular users I hope.
Is /sbin/unix_chkpwd really used and what is it used for? I haven't find
anything about it in pam documentation.
Is it really necessary to ship /usr/bin/gpasswd and /usr/bin/newgrp? Does

Emergency rescue help needed
Since repeated power cuts last week I've been a bit worried about the
state of my server. Today it spontaneously rebooted - but failed to
complete. Now it isn't recognising me as a user, by the look of it,
so I've got some questions before I do something that might make
things worse.
I can boot as root, and it appears that all my files are present.
System-config-user sees me as user
