Expert systems
Hi R-users
Is there any functions in R that can implement "expert systems"?
The aim of an expert system is to produce a probable diagnosis
for a patient with certain symptoms.
In the classical expert system a mumber of "experts" are asked to make
"statements" on the probabilities for different diseases when a
combination of systems would appear. One typical "expert system"
uses Fuzzy Logic to suggest the diagnosis.
In more modern systems one tends to make the system self learning
to improve the...

New package: expert 1.0-0
...xpert Opinion
Expert opinion is a technique to do statistical modeling when data is
scarse (e.g. accidents in nuclear plants) or even absent, at least for
the analyst (e.g. confidential settlements in liability insurance).
Opinions on the distribution of the decision random variable is sought
from experts in the field. The experts give their opinion in the form
of a few quantiles for the decision variable and for a set of "seed
variables" for which the analyst knows the true quantiles. Results for
seed variables are compared to the true values and used to determine
the influence of each ex...

*Q: Quick question: does "battery.runtime" update when the device is on
battery, or is this field always zero?*
*A: Yes, the UPS battery time starts counting when the device starts on
battery.*
Q: "battery.runtime.low" should be the number of seconds remaining before
switching to "LB" status. This seems large, even for a 6000 VA UPS. Is this
configurable?
A: I

samba/AD expert? for pay?
Howdy.
What's a good way to locate a Samba/Active Directory expert (for pay)?
I just don't have time to read every HOWTO I can find, and the many
hours I've spent trying to apply the scraps of things I've read have
been nearly fruitless.
I will provide a list of goals, and assuming the expert agrees all goals
are achievable, I (my company) would gladly pay for that expert to

Proposed New Mailing List
...basic research
on his problem.
One distro had a "brainflash" a number of years ago - create
a list for expert users and one for newbies. It didn't take
long for the newbies to realise that there was no one to
help and so flooded the "expert list". This put off the
"experts".
On some mailing lists, long time users are put off by the
flood of posts by newbies who don't even conform to the list
guidelines. Some pay back by not replying to those in violation
without as much as a hint.
Would a new list really solve anything or would it close
one door and open a...

Rating R Helpers
Since R is open source and help may come from varied levels of
experience on R-Help, I wonder if it might be helpful to construct a
method that can be used to "rate" those who provide help on this list.
This is something that is done on other comp lists, like
http://www.experts-exchange.com/.
I think some of the reasons for this are pretty transparent, but I
suppose one reason is that one could decide to implement the advise of
those with "superior" or "expert" levels. In other words, you can trust
the advice of someone who is more experienced more th...

simplification of code using stamp?
Hi
I have the following code which I would like to simplify. Id does linear
regressions and returns the r-squares, and the coefficients.
It runs slow, as it is doing the regressions for each - is it possible
to get the values in a dataframe which looks as follow:
expert | xx | seeds | r.squared | slope | intercept
Thanks in advance,
Rainer

DNAT Question
Hi list,
I have a shorewall installed on 2 interfaces which also has multiple
static public IP. Let''s say I have 1.2.3.4 and 1.2.3.5. I have assigned
nat with:
1.2.3.4 eth0 11.22.33.4 no no
But then I have a situation where I need 11.22.33.44 to connect to a
host in the net zone and appears also to be 1.2.3.5 not only 1.2.3.4.
How to do it? TIA

I'm having difficulty making a package pass R CMD check.
I need to read in a dataset from another package, modify it, and have the
modified object available in the first package. help(require) says:

centos5 iptables expert needed
Hello,
I'm setting up a centos5 router for a friend. It will direct traffic to
an internal webserver, already in place, as well as run squid proxy. It
should do nat and have a firewall with iptables. I've set up routers before
for this purpose but always of the bsd type and using their firewalls. I
understand the concepts, nat, packet filtering, etc. but i'm not getting

Need an Asterisk Expert for a Project
We have a customer that handles the billing for a rather large company.
Anyway, they have their phone system through us, Cisco 79xx phones with
Asterisk and such. They want us to build them an IVR system that can
interact with their billing system through XML and read back information to
the customer.
They want their customers to be able to call in, enter account numbers or
credit card numbers
