script to make webpage snapshot
Dear Experts, Could someone recommend a script or utility one can run from command line on Linux or UNIX machine to make a snapshot of webpage? We have a signage (xibo) and whoever creates/changes content, likes to add URLs of some webpages there. All works well if these are webpages on our servers (which are pretty fast), but some external servers often take time to respond and take time to

time foo
...rtion? inserting one row at a time?? or in batches???? remeber a database server is going to do commits after each transaction, which forces the data to be flushed to disk.?? 4.5 million seperate row transactions, yeah, I could see that taking some time, plus add that many network round trips, etcetc.?? if the db server just has a single SATA disk, you're doing 9 million committed writes combined to the two tables???? 20 minutes for 9 million inserts, thats 7500 per second. -- john r pierce, recycling bits in santa cruz

YAPQ (Yet Another Patent Question)
Looks like the mpeg gestapo are frantically at work cracking down on mpeg projects. Several important projects (tsunami mpeg, gogo, faac, etc) were shut down by the jack booted patent nazis. Since FhG, mpegla, etc plan to start charging royalties on everything even remotely mpeg-related very soon, I expect a lot of interest is going to shift to Vorbis. And soon thereafter, I expect FhG to attack

Quality & Tags
Hey folks. I know tags aren't anyone's favorite subject, but I'd like to make a suggestion for a tag that I think is quite important -- a quality tag. So important, I think, that oggenc really ought to automatically create one when the -q option is used. As all of us know, in the Vorbis codec the quality of the stream is often a more important (and more informative) value than the

Login Failure
Greetings. Is there something up with Samba and RedHat, or with recent kernels, or with some packages that have been updated recently? A lot of us seem to see the same login errors with samba and I have yet to get my windows clients to login to my new samba server. The log messages really don't help. I had an old server running Samba 2.0.7 (RedHat 5.0 upgraded to nearly 5.2 with 2.0.33).

What I''m doing with Puppet
Hi all, Just reading through Luke''s interview on computerworld.com.au and I came across this statement: "This topic comes up on the list periodically, however, and most people are very tight-lipped about what they''re doing with Puppet." Being the chattermouth that I am, I''d like to take this opportunity to tell you all what we''re (that is, my
