Everyone, I have installed Centos 7.0 on my homework machine in order to take a test drive with it, and am low on the learning curve with it at this point. I have a small Gateway SX2855-UB12P. I have a critical hurdle in that when I try a reboot or when I do a 'shutdown now -r' command the system will start a reboot process but hangs right after the os choices are presented. My

Sorry for asking such a basic question but what is the difference between CentOS (2.6.9-42.0.8.ELsmp) and CentOS (2.6.9-42.0.8.EL) Both kernels have been installed, but I have not been able to find which one is best to use for what purposes.

Everyone, about 4 years ago, I tried to install CentOS 6 on a Supermicro server with SCSI drives using a LSI raid system. I could never figure out or find a way to make the installation disc of Centos 6 identify the SCSI drives. The installation disc for Centos 5 identified the SCSI drives without a problem. Everyone, I am still in the low end of the learning curve with Centos 8, and keep getting warning messages to register with Red Hat. Is this a requirement for C8. I do not have a user ID with Red Hat; will they give a user ID for a Centos user. "This system is not registered to Red Hat Subscription Management. You can use subscription-manager to register." Everyone, I have had two e-mail servers running, one with Centos 6 and the other with Centos 7 using sendmail, dovecot, spamassassin, clamd, and cclamav-milter without hardly any problems after the initial setup. My expertise should be considered not much more than beginner or early intermediate. I would like to create a hypervisor with Centos 8 and run a guest Centos 8 with postfix and cyrus.

Everyone, I am putting together a new mail server for our firm using a SuperMicro with Centos 7.0. When performed the install of the os, I put 16 gigs of memory in the wrong slots on the mother board which caused the SuperMicro to recognize 8 gigs instead of 16 gigs.
