update encypted and LDAP
Hello all, I'm currently trying out samba-3.0alpha24 and moving to samba-3.0.0beta1 since we're getting into XP and encrypted passwords etc. I was hoping to set everyone (about 13,000 users) up on an LDAP (openLDAP) server with just the Unix crypt passwords for now and run with encrypt passwords = no update encrypted = yes for a while to populate the NT/LM password hashes before

LUKS encypted partition using --key-file can only be decrypted with --key-file
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, I created a LUKS encrypted partition via a udev-triggered script on 6.6 using --key-file /tmp/foo. This worked fine, and I can decrypt the LUKS partition via script and manually using --key-file with luksOpen. The odd problem is that I can't decrypt the partition using the prompt. If I manually create a file with the passphrase in it

...working correctly, I connected a brand new Windows 8.1 Professional PC to the new AD network as a test. I immediately encountered two problems: 1. Web credentials were not being remembered in either Internet Explorer nor Google Chrome 2. Microsoft Outlook 2013 was unable to connect to IMAP TLS encypted mailserver "An Unknown Error has Occurred - 0x8004011c". These problems were not present on a local account, only on a domain account. When accessing Web Credential service an Error 0x80090345 was seen, which fortunately took me to the following Microsoft Technet thread: * http://go...

Perl code to generate Samba passwd hashes?
Does anyone have perl code that can generate the Samba passwd hashes from a clear text password? I'm aware of the smbpasswd command that comes with Samba but that isn't the best tool for my purposes. I have a local account creation/deletion software that already handles encypting the password to generate unix /etc/passwd files and I need to be able to do the same for the Samba passwd file as well. -- Marlys A. Opening samba shares from W2K system - help
...et up on the linux system (in fact they have the same logon passwords), and the samba user and password is set identical to the one on the W2K system as well. However, when I try to open a share from the W2K system I get a password error after completing the user and password dialog. I have tried encypted and unencrpted passwords on the linux samba side with the same result. I remember setting up a similar system several years ago and have a faint recollection that there was a trick to getting past the password issue. Will someone enlighten me - please. -- Bud Curtis Colorado Springs, CO

Samba PDC without encryption
...ng shares, but kept getting a "this user is unauthorized to login to this machine" error when I tried to join the domain as root (which will authenticate through pam files just fine for accessing shares). I also have root with the same password encrypted, via smbpasswd, and when I set encypt passwords = yes, the domain works like a charm, for root and my other user I manually created accounts for. Has anyone attempted to do something like this? I know it's kinda stretching the limits of samba (or more likely the flexibility of windows), but if I could make this work, everyone i...

Let's say that the first guest gets a new encypted partition with coincidentally the same key as /dev/sda1: I do not want that with a wildcard --key that device is silently opened without the user acting and explicitly saying "this is the key for this device" -- even if it is the same as another device. > > > What's the u...

icecast problem
When I try to make icecast, I get an error stating "/usr/bin/ld: cannot finf -lssl". I'm pretty sure I have all the libs I need. I was able to install icecast 1.3.12 through urpmi, but I want the newer version. encrypted passwords and netatalk
...set encrypted password = Yes, added and enabled the user with smbpasswd -a -e <account>. After this change he can log in via dhcp in our network. But in the next morning I've recognised that some win95 machines could not log in any longer, but not all! First solution is that I've set encypted again to No. But when the win98 notebook comes again...? Some solutions? By the way: Do somebody know how I can manage netatalk to work not only with a guest access to the shares. All macs can only connect to shares as guest. I want to give the mac machine their own home on our Linux box without...

Win95/98 Passwords
...PC to a Unix Server without password encryption set to yes I an access the share as expected. When logging on from a Win98 PC using exactly the same login id and password and trying to access the same share I am continually asked for a password when trying to map to the share. I have tried both encypt password=yes and not encrypt but it makes no difference. There is an identical userid and passwd in both unix and smbpasswd. As soon as I plug in the Win95 laptop I can access the share using the login and password that doesn't work under 98. The only difference is that under 95 I have to c...
