My guess is you're suffering from the NT4.0 encypted password thing :)
NT4.0 by default, sends passwords across the network encrypted, Win95 does
not. If you're authenticating against /etc/passwd or an NIS passwd file
for example, the password comes in from the NT4 ws pre-encrypted, and is then
encrypted again in order to be matched against the password in the passwd
file. Of course they won't match, therefore, you get an access denied
error.
There are a couple of things you can do:
1. Set up your NT 4.0 workstations to transmit clear-text passwords
by editing the registry
2. Set up Samba to accept encrypted passwords
You may also be able to set up Samba to authenticate against an NT4 server
instead of a local file, but I'm not sure that will solve your problem.
