Different policies for users on same machine. How?
...rent groups) on the same win98 machine?
Win98 looks up the netlogon share on our Samba server in security level = us
er, domain logons = yes.
It parses the config.pol file, but the only group policy defined that applie
s to ANY user logging on is the one for Users group I added in Policy Editor
..

Logging on to the network - one samba, two subnets.
Hi.
I have Samba set up to serve W95 PCs. Kids "log in to the
network" using their Unix password. Students get their
Unix home dir mounted as network drive X: when login is
successful.
This all happens on IP subnet 192.168.1.1/24
So far, so good.
We are thinking about adding another IP subnet - say
192.168.2.1/24. Of course, the two subnets will be
connected with a router. It

TCP/IP Slowness (was win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP)
...ot;.
No other optimisations were made.
This whole simplex/duplex thing with cheap ethernet cards seems to be a
common problem. It may be worth your while to invest in a top quality
ethernet card, such as the Intel EtherExpress Pro 10/100

Disable Profile Caching?
Hi,
I'm wondering if there is a registry hack to disable
the caching of user's profiles workstation hard disks.
We run Win 95/98 on workstations. Samba on the server.

exporting a zfs pool from SPARC to x86
Hi Folks,
I''ve got a 4 Tb pool on a 3511 array. The pool was created from, and
is mounted on, an old 280r. I''d like to export the pool from the 280r
and import it to a shiny new x2200.
Will this work? Will the x2200 understand the disk labels made by the
280r? Some tests we''ve done on a smaller, non-production pool suggest
not.
Suggestions or pointers welcome.

Logging in from Win98
Hi.
Have FreeBSD and Samba 2.05a with
lots of Win95 rev 2 clients. With the
EnablePlainTextPassword=1 registry
setting on the Win95 boxes I my students
have been logging in fine.
We now have a few Win98 boxes I'd like to
connect, but I can't log in - I get refused
at the IPC$ share. I can log in if I use
rhosts, however I don't want to do this for
security reasons.

You might want to look into ifhp/LPRng. It speaks to jet-direct
printers. The whole combo of samba lprng and ifhp works well.

SAMBA and quotas on FreeBSD
Hi all,
I've looked about and I can't find anything
on Quotas and SAMBA with FreeBSD.
The FreeBSD manual says that I can enable
quotas and how to go about it, but I get the
feeling this is just for shell accounts. Quotas
would be useless in my situation if they did
not work with SAMBA as well.
All my SAMBA users have shell accounts as
well and only save to their home directory -

hide dotfiles not working.
Just started with Samba a few weeks ago so am
still a newbie. Am serving a single W-95 client
reasonably well - it allows users to log on using
their unix id and passwd, and they can all browse
their unix home directories. However ....
I can't seem to get the "hide dotfiles" directive to work.
Nor the "hide files"!
Also, If a user on W-95 saves a file to unix called,

zpool kernel panics.
Hi Folks,
I''ve got a 3.9 Tb zpool, and it is casing kernel panics on my Solaris
10 280r (SPARC) server.
The message I get on panic is this:
panic[cpu1]/thread=2a100a95cc0: zfs: freeing free segment
(offset=423713792 size=1024)
This seems to come about when the zpool is being used or being
scrubbed - about twice a day at the moment. After the reboot, the
scrub seems to have
