Hi, I'm wondering if there is a registry hack to disable the caching of user's profiles workstation hard disks. We run Win 95/98 on workstations. Samba on the server. Eddie.
On way is to use system policies to make the start menu, desktop etc refrer to the mapped drive on the server. Poledit.exe is on the Win95 CD as part of the resource kit Andrew Bartlett abartlet@pcug.org.au eirvine wrote:> > Hi, > > I'm wondering if there is a registry hack to disable > the caching of user's profiles workstation hard disks. > > We run Win 95/98 on workstations. with a network of win98 workstations, can we set up roving profiles in Samba?
1. Set up accounts on the samba machine, 2. Set up samba domain logins = yes 3. Set up Win95 to login to the NT domain (mygroup by default, see smb.conf) 4. Apply registry patch (in samba docs) to allow plain text password 5. Restart samba, reboot win98. 6. Login to the domain on win98 (you should see 3 boxes in the login screen) - Quick error: Encryption or login error - Slow error: TCP/IP Error - can you ping? - No error: Congratulations!!!
