net use H: /home does not work
The latest Orielly book Using SAMBA 2nd edition says that after you have
created a homes share that adding this line to your logon.bat file the
user's home directory will be mapped and it will be called their user
name. Well the logon.bat script gets an error on this line saying that
it is not the proper use of the net use command. So instead I changed
the command to net use H:

hide folders from others
Hi,
I am new to the samba world (and also to the list) and have been just
marveled about the many possibilities, however I am stuck in a problem
since 2 weeks and have found no solution to it: I need to configure my
network neighbourhood so that the users will only see their folders and the
folders of the groups they belong to.
I have already tried path = /data/%g but the problem is that

Cable Modem
I read many postings in this listserv about cable modem under RHL 7.3 in
Sept 2002, I followed the recommendations, but I still can't get it to
work. I have 3 computers connected to an Ethernet hub/router in my
house, and the uplink from the hub/router goes to a Scientific-Atlanta
Webstar cable modem. The 2 Windows computers are successfully using the
cable modem to connect to the

Subject: Swat problem
Hi everyone out there in the world,
I found a small problem with SWAT. I can easily switch off Samba with SWAT,
but I am not able to start Samba with SWAT using the status panel. Is that
correct or am I doing something wrong. I'm using Samba 2.0.0 and the

WG: Samba 2.2.7a and XP pro
Dear Michael,
I just have the same problem you have with samba 2.2.3a on a Suse 8.0
machine and win xp pro. Besides I performed all the steps below.
>From my postings I learned that the prob might have something to do with
a wrong mapping in smbusers file. It seems to me that the workstation
account is mapped to user nobody.
Up to now I was not able to solve the prob.
Do you have any ideas

information about XP <-> samba ?
I'm thinking about upgrading our NT4-clients to XP in the near future
and I want to know how well XP is supported by SAMBA in the recent
samba-versions.
I found many single statements in usenet, but I wonder if there is a
kind of XP-FAQ out there. (The one at samba-page is very outdated)
Especially I need to know how well XP integrates in a existing
NT4-domain (samba as PDC).
Then I need

SWAT
I was playing with this on my test machine, (redhat 5.2, samba 2.0.3)
worked great, and I was really impressed.
So I decided to install this on my office machine. (redhat 4.2, samba
2.0.3) and the only significant difference is that on the
office machine, I use encrypted passwords.
I cannot get swat to authenticate on the second machine. That is, no
matter what account, password combination

Can't join domain "wrong password"
Hey all I've been running samba 2.7a on my redhat 7.3 server with winxp
clients for a while now with no problems. Well I decided to throw
redhat 8.0 on a system at home as a test bed. Well I've configured it
the same added my users applied the sign or seal patch but when I go to
join the domain it gives me an error saying that the password is wrong
(using root and it's pw). I know

Samba 3.0alpha23 and swat
I just compiled and installed samba 3.0alpha23 with swat support.
Anyways when I access http://localhost:901 <http://localhost:901/> I
get asked for my username and password which I use root and it's
password on but it keeps saying that it's the wrong password. I've been
using swat since I first installed samba 2.2.3a and it's always worked
right out of the box (with only
