Out of the woodwork
Greetings Everyone, I finally got around to downloading and installing CentOS 3.1. Performed flawlessly :) Any of my whitebox friends still around here? I've been extremely busy with work as of late....I'm still considering getting involved with CentOS. -- Donavan Nelson donavan at whiteboxlinux.net http://whiteboxlinux.net

OT: firewalls
What is everyone using for a firewall? I'm currently using www.astaro.com but their recent releases have soured me on ASL as a practical solution on my hardware (1.2MHz Athlon, 30G, and 256M). I only have 4 computers going through the firewall wall but it's consistently at 50% cpu load. There is very little network traffic (<10k bits per second on the wan connection, < 40k

Problems migrating from WBEL
Hi folks: I've recently migrated one of my production servers (bad Jason!) from WBEL to CentOS 3.3 using Donavan's instructions in the FAQ (http://www.centos.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=19). While it was as painless as the document suggests, I've run into problems with postgrey (a postfix greylisting daemon) on my server. Whenever I try to start postgrey, I get the following error (trimme...

CentOS web page "Contact Us" form
Hey, Some time ago (two weeks maybe), I put a message in the CentOS web page "Contact Us" form, in part to see what would happen. Today I got an answer from Donavan. It is good that I finally got an answer. (I am not blaming Donavan; answering off the wall posts to a "Contact Us" form is not my idea of a good time, either.) Would it be better for submissions on the "Contact Us" form to get onto this mailing list immediately? Rick

Ambiguity on a CentOS dot Org Web Page.
Hi Ralph, Whilst wearing you C-devel hat, will you please have a look at a recent forum thread [1] that has highlighted the ambiguity on the CentOS Product Specification web page [2]. I'm asking this here, as I guess that page really does come under documentation . . . and you are the documentation-meister. If it is not actually your area, please let me know who's cage bars I should

mcollective scalability
I''ve been thinking a lot about running mcollective on my production servers recently, especially about its nice integration with puppet (using facts and so on). However I''ve got some concern about its scalability - how publish/subscribe middleware scales in terms of speed and flooding the network. I run about 2000 servers. Has anyone got any experience running mcollective on

strange string in /etc/shadow
Hi, I am using puppet (version 0.25.5-1.e15 for redhat) for password management for non-system users. This morning, users on some of my puppet clients had their encrypted password strings in /etc/shadow replaced with the following string: YAML::syck::BadAlias That has effectively broken the users'' ability to login to those servers. Puppet will not overwrite that string with the

Red Hat Legal Targets www.centos.org website content
...e but to eliminate the majority of the Red Hat marks that are being used on www.centos.org. So over the next few days, we will be cleansing the CentOS website of Red Hat marks and/or possible marks. If you encounter any errors please take a moment to point then out via a comment here or catch donavan in #centos-web on irc.freenode.net. At this point and going forward the CentOS project is not in any jeopardy. We have a strong group of committed developers and are growing like crazy. [OT] CentOS web form troubles
It looks as if the "Contact Us" form for sending comments to the CentOS webmasters (http://www.centos.org/modules/contact/) is trying to send mail to donavan at mail.centos.org, which apparently gets forward to an account @4wx.net. The mail server for that domain is having a hard time communicating with mail.centos.org. Is there anyone on this list who can confirm, deny, or report the problem? :-) -- Paul Heinlein <> heinlein at madboa.com &...
