Do's & Don'ts when creating a Win app to be wine compatible ?
Hi,
i am in the process of prototyping a small (inter-)network
game client that is intented to run on windows.
I don't have the time nor desire to create a
dedicated linux port of it, but as some users may
want to use it on linux, i'd like to know what
points could be important to make a win app run
as smoothly on wine as possible with little extra
effort.

Squid and HTTPS interception on CentOS 7 ?
Hi,
I've been running Squid successfully on CentOS 7 (and before that on 6
and 5), and it's always been running nicely. I've been using it mostly
as a transparent proxy filter in school networks.
So far, I've only been able to filter HTTP.
Do any of you do transparent HTTPS filtering ? Any suggestions, advice,
caveats, do's and don'ts ?
Cheers from the snowy South of

Hardening Apache on CentOS 7
Hi,
Some time ago one of my public servers (running Slackware64 14.0) got
attacked and was misused to send phishing emails.
This misadventure made me more concerned about security, so I spent the
last few weeks catching up on security, reading docs about SELinux and
how to use it, etc.
I have a public sandbox server running CentOS 7, and I'm currently
experimenting quite a lot with Apache

batch file execution
I am new to R and really like to get a handle of basics in short period of
time. What I am trying to do is get myself a list of must-do's (read in
data, batch execution, delimiters, basic modeling commands) in R as in Stata
or SAS. I am just wondering how to execute a R batch file in RGui. Suppose I
have a script file (like do file in stata, or sas file in SAS) under
c:\whatever.R, how can I

Recommendations for 100 Wifi SIP phone setup
Hi all,
Im preparing a quote for a 5 Star hotel, planning to have around 100
SIP Wifi phones for PBX operations running on 100 AccessPoints.

The initial recommendation is to go for Hitachi Wifiphones, but i
would like to know from the group the recommendations. Im planning to

Bayonne and Asterisk
All,
is anyone using Bayonne in conjunction with Asterisk? I'm currently using
only Bayonne, but I'm investigating the possibilities of switching the
telephony frontend over to Asterisk, and have Asterisk route the IVR tasks
to Bayonne through H323.
Anyone care to share his views on this approach? Any pointers or do's and
don'ts? All info is greatly appreciated!

Current state of Asterisk and Virtualization?
Hi all,
In a pure VoIP env, what is the current state of do's and don't s of
virtualizing * in order to provide multiple separate instances, say
for hosting lots of Asterisk-gui/FreePBX/a-n-other gui?
I've read lots of threads going back to 2007 and I'm in the general
option that kvm is the way to go now, if at all.
If dadhi_dummy/zt_dummy is still an issue for conferencing etc.

"helper" lines in plot. From point to axis.
This is a very basic question. I am just wondering if there is a function
where i can choose a vector of points, and them helper lines are drawn.
I am asking because lines seams to be a cumbersome way to do this.
E.g.
x <- 1:36
plot(log(x,1.1),xlab="Number of months", ylab="Visits(1000)",main="webpage
visits")
abline(h=log(12,1.1),col="red",lty=2)

Fitting a cumulative gaussian
Dear R-Experts,
I was wondering how to fit a cumulative gaussian to a set of empirical
data using R. On the R website as well as in the mail archives, I found
a lot of help on how to fit a normal density function to empirical data,
but unfortunately no advice on how to obtain reasonable estimates of m
and sd for a gaussian ogive function.
Specifically, I have data from a psychometric function

Need advice for application port
OK, I am definitely new to porting from Windows to Linux. You may have
already seen my previous post about Winelib, ignore it for the time
being. We have an app that dates back several developers, which of
course no longer are available, and several years. We have had quite a
few requests for a version that runs on Linux and hence the work to
get the app ported. It is not a large app by most

Folder Sync for road warriors in a Samba 4.8.x setup?
Hi All,
I know this isn't really a Samba question per se but I'm looking for some
samba-related advice.. :)
I have a very small AD DC setup (5 users) and some end-users (read:
teenargers) are now using laptops, which means they don't always have
access to the network shares configured by GPO and Logon scripts from the
Samba servers when they take the laptop to school. (The Samba

The 'not-always-on' infrastructure at home and Samba4 AD DC's..
Hi everyone,
Apologies in advance, this will be a bit long but I'm hoping to get some
guidance and hints on usual practices for using Samba4 AD DC as an Idm for
W10 laptops that might be on the road elsewhere..
As much as I have been using samba for file serving, a Samba AD DC is
something new to me.
I built a small Samba AD DC infrastructure to serve UIDs and Passwords (4

I would like to verify what are the available options for RAM storage.
...years...). But I need to
run tests on RAM only.
Until now what I did was to create a tmpfs, shutdown the VM, move the
disk image to the tmpfs, change the disk location on the VM settings and
then turn the machine on again when it's on RAM(I cannot 100% control
swap since it's the kernel doings..).
I am considering what to do next and the options are:
- automate the process of migration from one storage to another
- buy more ram
- buy a very fast SSD?
- a combination of RAM + SSD(SWAP)
But I do not know exactly what to do.
Every choice have it's price and it's unclear to me if...

After a week of trial and error, transparent HTTPS filtering works
perfectly. I wrote a detailed blog article about it.
