Bad performance samba and Windows XP
Hi, I observed following behaviour. When I'm writing big (200MB+) files to samba share from Windows XP then writing speed is slow. Reading of these files (written from Windows XP) is very slow too. I found that it is caused by framgentation of this file [observed by using debuge2fs]. I tried to figure out what causes this framemtation and it seems that Windows XP is trying to do some

Two problems: no network for gaming; DVDShrink autorun
...e game not to touch any default ports that it may use, and possibly wind up freeing up the net problems. If you cant change the ports it uses, then see if you can determine what ports the game wants to use then check if there is a service on your linux box already using it, that you could possibly dissable. Also see if there is a command line argument that specifies which of those protocols that you mention, to use. Its possible that telling the game upfront in a command line argument would force it to recognize the protocol. I know that under Windows you have to add IPX as a protocol. I wonder if...

You can specify ports with # "host:port". #imap_listen = [::] pop3_listen = [::] Does anyone know how I can dissable this IMAP-AUTOcreate behaviour? Thanks in advance. Michiel

Performance Issues with AutoCad 2003
Hello, we are using a Samba server (3.0.2a) here at work. It's running on a dual 1.4ghz opteron with two 250gig HD. Everything seems to be running fine except for AutoCad (which is the main program we run). Any time we try to save it can take up to 10 seconds, or each time we try to print it can take about the same amount of time to bring up the print dialog. I am only serving about 6

Rails Sessions - Disabling and Garbage Collection
Is there a way to turn sessions off in Rails? Doesn''t appear to be. Also, is there any garbage collection for stale sessions? On those two topics, are there any problems with Rails handling those options? I ask because it seems like something that would have been included. If there is no technical reason why it wasn''t included, then I''ll create/submit a source

...in smb.conf. Some of the printer shares open from the windows interface and display the correct status. Other open with the message "access denied" but printing continues to work. I spent an hour going over the latest smb.conf man page and found two possible solutions: 1) using "dissable spoolss = yes" 2) and "use client driver = no" I've implemented these and, no more mixed messages on the windows printer object. The question is Why did I have mixed results opening these printer objects where some worked and others didn't. I'd like to use the new rpc...

Slow access when opening shares
Hey, I have slow access when I first open shares. If I reboot my XP box and then go to access a share, it takes a good 10 seconds for files to come up, even after I've typed in my username and password. Once accessed it runs fine and is fast. But, if I don't access it for 30 minutes, when I access it again it sits for like 10 good seconds before it does anything. This is very annoying.
