Samba, WinXP and slow printing
...41207134601.23770.qmail%40web14610.mail.yahoo.com> from Tue Dec 7 16:24:02 GMT 2004 on this list. Some more info added from other messages. So, here you go: * Using regedit in winXP, find HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\ and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModePerUser * Look for DevModes and DevModes2 and there delete all entries for Samba printers. That's it. Sorry, don't know what it means but there are no problems and it started immediately printing fast. // -- Best regards, Stan Berka Senior Programmer Analyst Pope & Talbot, Inc. Printing XP -> 3.2 Now really slow (just like the old days)
...ur cups server running samba-3.2.1-0.1.126. Nothing has changed in the last two months going from 3.0.28a to the 3.2.x flavor of samba. However, something has brought printing to its knees. I pulled out all the old tricks, hacked the registry to delete any entries in HKCU\Printers\DevModes and DevModes2 of the type \\server\printer. Removal of the entries didn't change a thing. I captured an ethereal/wireshark trace and I have that available to anyone if interested. Have there been any changes in 3.2.x that would effect printing? It does seem to print once every conceivable timer in windo...

slow printing vista
...ell. But we are experiencing slowness when connecting and talking to the printers. Has anyone any ideas about why this could be happening and how to fix it? For windows XP we solved this problem by deleting registry entrys in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModePerUser HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModes2 But that doesn't work for vista? Our config file: # Global parameters [global] workgroup = APSS netbios name = APSS server string = APSS Samba passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u passwd chat = *New*password* %n\n *new*password* %n\n *successfully*...

I setup samba 3.09 printing with cups. However the dialogue box takes about 10 - 15 seconds to load or even when i switch printer or change properties to printers. Strangly enough when i add my user account as a admin in the global section, the problem goes away. I am running my clinet on XP SP1. Any help would be great. Thanks! GetPrinter Level 2 does not get devmode
Hi all, I have uploaded the printer drivers succesfully on RedHat Linux/ Samba 2.2.4 server. I can download and print without any problems. But when I do Windows API call GetPrinter with PRINTER_INFO_2, the devmode in printer_info is always null. My code looks like HANDLE hPrinter=NULL; PRINTER_DEFAULTS pDefaults; pDefaults.DesiredAccess = PRINTER_ACCESS_USE;
