Mounting devfs over to ZFS from fstab fails
Hello,
I have some jails running on ZFS, so I have to mount devfs's into them.
For this purpose, I have some similar lines in /etc/fstab:
devfs /pool/jail/ldap/dev devfs rw 0 0
Where /pool is a ZFS filesystem.
This has worked until today -when I upgraded from a previous 7-STABLE
(FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE #16: Fri Mar 7 14:30:08 CET 200...

devfs and ext3?
Hi!
Today I switched over to devfs. I'm on Debian unstable, installed
devfsd, installed a kernel with devfs support and "devfs mount on boot".
Reboot, devfs is being used.
All over a sudden, dmesg reports:
Linux version 2.4.21-ac1 (root@hummus) (gcc version 3.3 (Debian)) #1 Sun Jun 15 19:06:13 CEST 2003

Guest OS woun''t boot
...ot = "/dev/sda1 ro"
extra = "3"
I have tried diffenrent Config like
disk = [ ''phy:/dev/vg01/SYSP,sda1,w'' ]
or
root = "sda1 ro"
or
root = "/dev/vg01/SYSP ro"
but it also doesn''t work.
Don''t know if there is a problem with devfs used by Gentoo (but dom0 is
working fine with devfs!).
Both Kernels (xen0 and xenU) uses the same .config!!!
I hope, anyone can help.
Nice greetings,
Dominik.

devd question
I'm trying to make devd run an stty command whenever a USB serial device
is attached. Unfortunately, $device-name is ucom[0-9] and the device
names are /dev/cuaU[0-9] - how do I get the correct name in the device
action? I haven't found a way to extract the number by itself, so I'm
stuck with specifying a separate rule for each number, like so:
attach 100 {

About block device mapping for guests
...''s or something like that pass through? If I export an
entire hard disk, can the parameters for it tuned from inside the
guest? What about CD/DVD/etc. drives? Do media insert notifications go
through? Could I use a CD-burner from a guest?
And yet more, how do these devices play along with devfs? Does the Xen
blockdev frontend driver automatically create some nodes for devfs?
Can it somehow make /dev/hda or /dev/sda appear on the guest side with
devfs? How about udev? Does udev get boottime events to initialize the
device nodes for the block devices? And what about sysfs? Is there a
sysfs...

Codeweaver's Wine - Autolaunch?
I had a little trouble installing WINE and, becuase of that, tried several
different versions. It turned out the sound trouble was not a WINE issue,
but a devfs issue, so I deactivated devfs (devfs=nomount).
I am using the latest RPM of Codeweaver's WINE with Mandrake 8.1.
I've got Codeweaver's WINE up and running now. When I first tried this, I
could type a win .exe file from the console and run it without typing wine
[win_exe_name]. I c...

[ronvdaal@zarathustra.linux666.com: Possible security issue with FreeBSD 5.4 jailing and BPF]
...om within the
jailed environment, allowing a packetsniffer to gather data not meant for
the jailed box. This also affects FreeBSD 5.3 (tested) but not FreeBSD 4.x
This can be reproduced on boxes where BPF support is enabled in the kernel
and a BPF device is available in the jail (badly configured devfs/no rules)
The problem lies within the FreeBSD 5.x BPF kernel code:
"The Berkeley Packet Filter provides a raw interface to data link layers
in a protocol independent fashion. The function bpfopen() opens an
Ethernet device. There is a conditional which disallows any jailed
processes from a...
