DEVICE_STATE() and Asterisk 1.6.0.10
...I have two extensions: 6666 and 6668. I used 6668 to make a call to
yet another phone, so I know that it's busy. I then use 6666 to call
6668 and in the dialplan have a noop to see what DEVICE_STATE() is
returning for both extensions.
I get:

NoOp("SIP/6666-08636430", "SIP/6668 has state NOT_INUSE") in new stack

switch. It gives you most of the functionality of an on premise PBX
delivered over local loops from the LEC or CLEC switch. This allows
three or four digit dialing between extensions and no charges incurred
for calls unless the user dials 9 for an outside line.
Centrex can use POTS or ISDN desksets or a mixture of both. For
instance, individual users can have POTS desksets but a receptionist
could have an ISDN deskset to provide programmable keys for multiline
answer and transfer. ADSI desksets can also be used to provide this
functionality.
I assume you are questioning the availability of...

Asterisk feature list: spreadsheet
...ugh it
would require a few minutes of work. Other features which seemed to
be a little more complex, or which would require some web
programming, I listed with estimates of how much time it would take
to build them. I assumed use of Cisco 7960 phones, so some of the
features which are really deskset options I listed as "S"tandard if I
were to use 7960 devices. Caveat emptor for other desksets.
This is not truly a "comparison", since there are no other columns in
the spreadsheet. However, it's good fodder for you to whack your
VoIP or PBX vendor on the nose with, s...

What technology could my phone company be using?
I live in New Brunswick Canada. The phone company is Aliant. When
you set up business service here, you can go with either analog or
digital lines. This isn't a T1 or ISDN. They are talking individual
lines direct to handsets that they provide. They offer the digital
option with even very small ( 2 - 4) number of lines.
What technology could this be? Is there any way to connect such a

VOIP phonesets vs. cheap Analog touch-tone sets with Asterisk
Hello--
I've been asked an interesting question, and I'm too ignorant to answer
it authoritatively (yet). Can anyone help me?
Question: If I'm going to implement a somewhat small (10-80) phone
system, and I have a choice of using VOIP phoneset (like SNOM or
Grandstream or Cisco, etc), vs. cheap analog touch-tone phones, exactly
what features will I kiss goodbye if I use the cheap

Simultaneous ring internal extension and external phone number?
...ing at replacing their PBX, and I'm
interested in putting together an Asterisk solution for them. One
feature that would really, really get their attention is if I could do
the "Vonage" thing, where if a PSTN caller dials a direct extension
(coming in over PRI) both the user's deskset _and_ an external number
(their cell phone) would ring, with either being able to answer the call.
Is there a way to do this with Asterisk? Based on my review of the
handbook and parts of the wiki, it looks like it could be done quite
easily in the dial plan. However, I have never installed Ast...

And they are present as a hint:

(I've done exten => 1406,hint,SIP/1406 but that doesn't seem to make a difference.) DEVICE_STATE is being set all through the rest of the dialplan, and is currently working fine for busy lamp notifications (desksets are Polycom 550s) and the like. I can even call the queue and see the call ringing, but the set being rung doesn't register it...

Asterisk, ATA186 and callerid
Hi,
I'm having trouble getting caller*id to appear on my phone connected
to an ATA186, and being called from Asterisk.
Does anyone out there successfully see callerid on their
ata186-connected phone?
The "From:" header in the INVITE to the ATA seems to have the "right
stuff" - eg
From: "Study phone" <sip:6002@195.217.255.45:5062>;tag=as412db061

Outbound audio fades out with IAX Provider

where the cause may be. Could this be a provider problem? A network

Any suggestions for further investigation would be appreciated.

Re :Recommendations for 100 Wifi SIP phone
...tail
I had some Hitachi WIP5000 back in early 2006. It looks like a nice
device but it really didn't deliver upon its promise.
The reason to select a wifi phone is that by staying IP end to end you
might gain operational advantages. It should have at least some of the
features of a proper SIP deskset. The WIP5000 did not provide this at
the time. The phones that I used had simple trouble moving between
access points. Also the volume of the earpiece was very low, even for
use in a quiet office.
I am led to beleive that the new DECT cordless IP devices, like the
system from Aastra Telecom, are...

AGI Transfer?
I've been trying to get an AGI "transfer" to work for several weeks now. It
isn't error-ing out, but it isn't working either.
I can't use "dial" in this case due to what I'm trying to accomplish.
Does an AGI Transfer actually work?

RE: Asterisk-Users digest, Vol 1 #1918 - 9 msgs
...This "debate" is central to what most of us
(consultants) are facing just now. The short answer is that the mission
may be accomplished either way.
Start out by lining up the quantities, types and costs of the equipment
required.
With an analog phone deployment, anything beyond four desksets is best
accomplished with T1 card(s) in the Asterisk PC and channel banks to
connect the phones (and probably the PSTN). Whereas the phones could be
as little as $10 each, you have to budget the price of the channel
bank(s). If the customer is uncomfortable with eBay, used hardware,
channel bank...

Newbie here. Tips on setting up 100 phones wanted.
I'm looking at setting up Asterisk for a completely IP environment.
All intercompany calls.
I work for a ski area. I currently use a 3Com Superstack for in our
office. And an old small town phone system for up at the mountain. The
phone system is dying and I'm hoping to bring IP to replace the old
phones. It will be about 100 phones at about 20 locations all within
about 4 miles of each
